Recipes English Gooseberry Tart 1 lb. of gooseberries 1H cups of boiling water 2 tablespoons of soft butter cup of sugar. Pick gooseberries over, wash well, and drain. Remove and discard tops and tails. Have water boiling very hard, and add the gooseberries slowly.

Bring to hard boil, then boil rapidly for 3 minutes no longer. Drain thor oughly. Place in bowl, add sugar and butter, and mix thoroughly, Line a pie plate witn plain or flaky pastry rolled to one eighth Inch thickness. Sprinkle bottom with 4 5 tablespoon fuls of crushed corn flakes, or fine dry bread crumbs. When gooseberry mixture Is almost cold, turn into prepared pie plate.

Spread evenly. Cut strips or pastry rolled to one eighth inch thickness, cutting strips no wider than 1 inch. Stretch across top of gooseberries. to make a lattice top, and moisten edges to pinch together with edge of bottom crust. Bake in a hot oven 42S degrees for about 8 minutes, then reduce to 350 degrees, and cook for another 40 minutes.

Gooseberry Whip 1 lb. of gooseberries Vi cup of boiling Mater cup of sugar 1 tablespoon of granulated gelatine 2 tablespoons of cold water, 2 eggvwhlles Thin custard sauce.

Wash gooseberries after picking over, drain well, then remove and discard the tops and tails. Place with boiling water in stew pan, and bring to boil. Simmer gently, and add sugar slowly, stirring until it dissolves. Cook until very soft and tender. In the meantime, soak the gelatine in the cold water.

When gooseberrjrs are cooked, put through strainer or fine sieve, ta make a puree. Add gelatine to thus puree, and stir well to blend end dissolve. Set aside to cool, then chill well. When beginning to thicken, beat with dover beater Beat egg whites until stiff but not dry, and fold 'into mlxtur. Pile into serving bowl, and chill thoroughly.

Serve with a thin custard sauce. Watermelon Rind Pickle Be sure to peel off all the green part of the rind, and remove any of the edible pink or red meat part The part to be pickled is the white of the rind. Cut In Inch cubes, and soak in cold salty water overnight (one teaspoon of salt per one quart of water.) Drain well, rinse under cold water, and drain again. Following Is the spiced syrup to use. 2 cups of white vinegar 1 medium sired lemon 2 teaspoons of whole cfoves 1 or 2 Inch stick of cinnsmon 2 cups of white sugar.

Slice lemon paper thin, and remove and discard the seeds. Add to vinegar with sugsr and spices, and bring to boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Bring to hard boll and boll rapidly for three minutes. Add prepared watermelon rind cubes, and simmer gently until these cubes are clear and transparent. Lift out and pack Into hot clean jars.

The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, wore a red in gote In wood nymph green crepe the collar and panel In front featuring pleated inset bands of the; material. Her corsage was of white gardenias. Mrs. Pollard wore a dress of dusky pink with matching redin gote.

The collarless coat was trim med with grape design embroidery in deeper tones. Her hat was of white straw with large bow ot gros grain ribbon. Her corsage was of Johanna Hill roses, iris and bou vardia, Mr. John Merrick and Mr. Wit liam Pollard were ushers.

A reception was held at the home ot the bride's parents, Somerset ave. Mr. and Mrs. Pollard left for Farlane, Ont. The bride traveled In a blue printed silk dress with navy coat and hat.

Samson, the occasion being the 25th anniversary of their wedding and the 25th anniversary of the ordination of Mr.

JAMES PERRAULT celebrated her 90th birthday, Wednesday, at the home of her daughter, with whom she lives. She was Landing, Ont She lived for 30 years at Rat Portage, now Kenora, and has resided in Winnipeg the last 14 years. Besides her daughter she has one son, Mr. James Perranjt, Kenora; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Her relatives and friends joined her Wednesday for a quiet celebration of her birthday.

Altar Decked With Flowers For Wedding The marriage ot Rae Lillian, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Bull, to Sergeant Pilot Stanley Matthews, R.C.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs.

W. H. Matthews, was solemnized at 5 o'clock Tuesday afternoon In St. Aldan's Anglican church. Rev.

W. H. H. Crump officiated. Gladioli and Larkspur were placed on the altar.

Peonies and marguerites lined the chancel rail. Mr. F. Douglas Bull, of Brandon, uncle ot the bride, played the wedding music, During the signing of the register, Mr. Edward Taylor sang Where'er You Walk.

The bride, who was given In marriage by her father, wore a gown of white chenille organza revealing a daisy pattern. The sheath bodice had a sweetheart neckline and short puffed sleeves. The full skirt bore a slight train and was adorned with ruffes of the material to give a redlngote effect Her chapel veil was draped from a coronet of the organza and she carried a Colonial bouquet of white pink roses and bouvardia. She was attended by her sisler, Miss Joyce Bull, who wore a chiffon gown, the bodice of white and the skirt of randy stripes. It was fash ioned with a neckllne and bishop sleeves.

She wore a Juliet cap evolved of a succession ot little white bows and carried white lark spur and carnations. Mr. Reginald Stapley was best man. The ushers were Messrs. John Phillips and Gerald Williams.

A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, 84 Brock st. Peonies and marguerites decorated the rooms. Sergeant Pilot and Mrs. Mat thews left for Lac du Bonnet. They will live at Rivers, where the bridegroom is stationed.

Her headdress was a Juliet cap ot orchid tulle topped by a cluster of tiny violets.

She carried a co lonial bouquet of pink sweet peas and wihte daisies. The bridesmaid wore pink chll fon. the bodice inset with matching lace and the full skirt gathered to a lace Inset at the waist line. The sleeves were short and full. Her headdress was a band of orchid Congregation Of St.

Mark's Honors Betrothed Couple In honor of Miss Agnes Swalwell and Rev. John O. Anderson, whose marriage will take place Friday, the congregation of St. Mark'i Anglican church, St. Vital, entertained Monday evening in the parish hall.

For going away the bride chose a moss green crepe dress with tiny floral pattern in black. The bodice and a boat neckline. Her sports hat of matching felt was self trimmed. She wore a corsage of orchids. The bride was graduated in music from the North Western University, Chicago, In 1939.
