THE WINNIPEG TRIBUNE PAGE 21 Iff 5rws rayrasGysaf WEDNESDAY, OCT. 26, 193 WILLIAM WHITTAKER Retired leader of Canadian ationalist party, dies, aged 63. wTwhittaker Dies, Aged 63 William Whittaker. until recently leader of the Canadian Nationalist parly, died early today in St. Boni fare' hospital, aged 63 years.

In failing health for several months, the "Fuehrer" was admitted to the hospital Aug. 30. Mr. Whitlaker was born at llford, London, within sound of Bow bells, September 20, 185. At 17 ears of age he went with a British army unit to India, served for a period with the Punjab police inspector, then rame to Canada.

For three years he was member of the police force at St. Catharines. Ont. He was married at St. Catharines.

In 1907 he came to Winnipeg. He wa.s in turn an employ of the Canadian National Railways freight office, member of the Canadian Pacific Railway police force, detective of the Marlborough hotel, clerk In several business concerns and caretaker of downtown block. In 1931 he Joined with nine other war veterans to lay plans for Canadian Nationalist party which hould have as its emblem 1he iwastika and for the chief feature of ita uniform brown hirts. Two years later this organisation began to formally organize and hold public meetings. This was after Hitler's rise to power in Germany.

Whittaker rose by steps not revealed, since the internal workings of the party were kept secret, to the position of "Leader." which he held until he suffered a stroke in March, and J. G. Linds and Jack Cole took over leadership. Quite frequently, particularly through 19.13 and 1934. public meetings of the party became near riots when opposition groups attempted to break th.

up. He attacked wiUi virulence Free Masonry and Jewry in public ad di esses. In 1937 his party affiliated with other "iasvist" parties in a conference at Kingston. Later he expressed dissatisfaction with the selection of Adrien Arcand, of Montreal, as leader of the new National Union party of Canada. Mrs.

Whittaker, two married daughters in Vancouver, and one son. Victor, at home, are survivors Bardnl's funeral service is in charge of arrangements 'which have not vet been completed. I Alberta House To Meet Nov. 15 EDMONTON, Oct. 26 Alberta's 63 member legislature will convene Nov.

15 for a special session chiefly to deal with legislation amending the Conservation of Oil and Gas Resources act passed at the regular 1938 session which ended last April 8. Announcement of the special session was made by Premier Aber hart Tuesday but details of the legislation to come before the house v. as not disclosed. The sessio ill he prereded by a caucus of the Social Credit members on Monday, Nov. 14.

It was reported, but not confirmed, that om legislation dealing with establishment of branches ot the provincial treasury department of "credit houses" would be introduced. Eight branches have been established with the objective of Increasing purchasing power, pro viding services similar to hanks and paying bonuses on purchases of Alberta marie goods. Two More Convicted On Still Charges Paul Demark and Frank McGirl lit the assizes Tuesday evening were found guilty of conspiracy to prepare a still for operation on the arm of Demark, Prairie Grove. The still was seized April 23. i Ben Balokowski was convicted for preparing the still.

Demark Tuesday morning also pleaded guilty to ownership of the still, mash and spirits. Mr. Justice Dysart presided, with S. Hart Green. KC, representing the crown; A.
