close to $200 000 for the 24 game match to be held for two months in Rey kjavik Iceland starting July 2 The games will be played in the Reykjavik Sportshall which seats about 3000 people The match will be open to the pub lic and tickets will cost $5 a game or $75 for the 24 games Of the $200000 put up some $125000 will be paid in prizes to the players according to the federation ischer 29 and Spassky 35 will also divide 60 per cent of the income from films and tele CARVINGS ON DISPLAY George Edlers will display many of his famous hand carved items during the irst Annual Arts and Crafts Show to be held at iddler's Grove July 1 4 The artist a native of Pacolet now 80 began his skillful hand carving career 20 years ago In addition to Elders several other craftsmen are ex pected to participate in the annual event including Willard Watson with his famous whisky still I campsites Toilets and hot water showers are also available know whether a woman Miss or Mrs you could guess and graineries to the delicate human figures carved of wood and dressed in clothing of the period His collection which is valued at $30000 but termed by as irreplaceable also includes a true model of a fron tier style covered wagon com plete with wooden wheels that turn on their wooden axles just as the originals turned On the side of the wagon is attached a water barrel with removable top Two sleek polished wood oxen are depicted pulling the wagon The Dutchstyle brake line is attached to both oxen and wagon Also in the frontier collection is a grist mill with wooden water wheel scaled exactly to specifications of the original A special pressure unit of flowing water also designed by Elder will turn the wheel with striking realism Other items made by the Rib TOPS artist includes a church sur mounted with a cross chicken coop hog pen scalding barrel and butchering pole plows I hoes axes and other imple ments The collection also includes a complete blacksmith shop with horses to be shod These and other items of his collection will be on display at Grove during the Arts and Crafts Show scheduled to be held this Saturday Sunday Monday and Tuesday In addition to Elders some of the finest craftsmen in the southeast are expected to dis play their works of art These include Willard Watson from Deep Gap who will dis play his famous still rank Hodges and his hand carved dulcimers and Edsel Martin from Swananoa will display his hand carved birds Orrie Watson one of the outstanding folk fiddlers in the Appalachian mountains will be there along with olk Toys from Sugar Grove Also scheduled for the first annual crafts fair will be old fashioned fun and games horseshoe pitching sack races relays fishing frog jumping contest with music and dan cing in the evenings A is planned for Sunday afternoon in the outdoor amphitheater To add to the old fashioned atmosphere which will prevail at the four day event will be a picnic lunch on July 4 at noon The auction sale on July 4 will begin at 2:30 pm with the craftsmen consigning some of their finest pieces such as wood carvings pottery leather goods bedspreads musical in struments sculptures and stoneware Camping facilities
