Sagendorph, a native of Newton Center, left the family steel business and moved to Dublin in 1930 to become a freelance writer. In 1935 he founded Yankee Magazine, one of New England's best known regional publications. In 1939 he became editor and published of the almanac. Since then, he has written a number of books on almanacs and New England, the most recent, "America and Her Almanacs; Wit, Wisdom and Weather 1639-1970," published last February.

He also has published "The Old Farmer's Almanac Sampler," "Rain, Hail and Baked Beans," and "That New England." Harvard Graduate Sagendorph was graduated from Harvard in 1922 and served on the board of directors of its alumni association.
