1 '13 .1 DOLORES DEL RIO MARY ASTOR 1 1 Tricks of Picture Making and Careers of Stars Revealed It :) While 192S was the worst of all Wampas years since not one of the selections attained stardom, the following year was a record breaker. Janet Gaynor (Left) has headed the list of feminine stars for the last two years, and Joan Crawford (Right) has been a star for several years with her popularity steadily increasing. Dolores Del Rio has consistently been a high rating star, and has reached new heights since her return after a short absence from the screen. Fay Wray appears regularly and is a steady star, and Mary Astor still is popular as a leading lady. While Mary Brian never 'became a sensation, she continues at a steady pace.

Fleeting success came to Vera Reynolds, Sally O'Neil, Marceline Day, and Dolores Cos i Sally Rand (1927) Of the six baby stars of 1927 who won recognition, only one of them is still nationally popular Sally Rand. Made famous by her fan dance, Sally Rand is seen here as she appeared in New York in a "costume protest" against an edict which barred hec appearance there "in fans only." The temporary hits were Sue Carol, Lina Eas quette, June Collyer, Alice Day, Ruth Taylor, and Molly O'Day.

'A i' 1 Rife? 111 mm fy I Jot Blondell (1931) In 1930 there were no Wampas Baby Stars, but 1931 made up for it. Of the 13 selected, 10 were hits. Joan Blondell is the ace actress among them to date. Rochelle Hddson is headed for executives predict. Constance Cummings has won widespread popularity in America and England alike.

Judging from per centages of previous years, these girls have a 50 50 chance to succeed. They are the 1934 Wampas Baby Stars, and are, left to right: Betty Bryson, Dorothy Drake, Ann Hovey, Jean Carmen, Luann Meredith, Helene Cohan. Jacqueline Wells, Gigi Parrish, Judith Arlen.

AT LEFT Loretta Young (1929) Scoring what seemed to be a good selection, the Wampas judges saw seven of the 13 baby stars named in 1929 go far enough to be considered successes, Today, however, only two remain. Loretta Young (left) continues to hold her popularity, and while Helen Twelvetr'ees hasn't a particularly brilliant record, it is above average. Others of 1929 were Sally Blane (Lor etta sister), Jean Arthur (now trying for a comeback), Jose phine Dunn, Sharon Lynn, and a If7 GINGER ROGERS.

She was one of the six girls who stayed in the spotlight after winning in the 1932 Wampas selection. The others are Dorothy Wilson, Gloria Stuart, Patricia Ellis, June Clyde, anJ Mary Carlisle.
