ocie Elks Club Picnic Members of the Elks Club are asked to get reservations in early for the family picnic, to be held Thursday, Aug. 25, at Freeport Country Club. Tickets may be obtained at the Elks Club anytime before or on Aug. 24. The picnic will begin at 2 p.m.j and will include swimming in new pool, golfing, games, rides and gifts for the children and social activities.

Because of the picnic, there will be no social activities at the Elks Club the following night. Picnic supper will be served. Farewell At Germania Members of Germania will honor John Atwood at a farewell party Friday evening at the club. Mr. Atwood, who has been manager of the club for almost two years, has resigned.

On Monday, he will begin new duties as manager of the Mauh-Nah-Tee-See Country Club in Rockford. The party will begin with a fish dinner, which will be served beginning at 6:30. Al Bolinger's Orchestra will play for dancing and, there will be other entertainment. Maxey gave a reception Wednesday evening at 8 o'clock for Mr. and Mrs. Loren Maxey, who were married on July 31 in Greeley, Colo. The reception was held at Westminster Lounge of Second Presbyterian Church. There were about 75 relatives and friends present.

Orchid, yellow and white gladioli in baskets decorated the lounge and the same colors were used in cake and table decorations. Orchid candles lighted the room. The newlyweds came here Tuesday after spending a honeymoon in Yellowstone Park. They left this morning for Champaign, where they are. building a home.

Mrs. Nuell P. Steinmetz and son, Peter of Detroit, are visiting Mr. Steinmetz' parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Clyde Steinmetz, 520 S. State Ave. The family arrived Saturday and will be here until next Tuesday. Mr. Steinmetz recently completed an 18-month course at Harvard University and has been employed in Detroit since June.

School Board Fills Teaching Posts Here Gordon Eade has been appointed principal of the new Blackhawk School and 10 new teachers have been hired to fill vacancies in elementary schools and at Freeport and Junior high schools. Two resignations also were announced at the Board of Education meeting Wednesday evening. Thomas Boardman, audio-visual education director for nine years, resigned to accept a job as audiovisual specialist at the University of Illinois Extension Service, Urbana. Mrs. Rita Eisenbise, who taught third grade at Taylor Park School, gave no reason for resigning.

Two teachers returned their contracts unsigned and took other jobs: Walter Leski, Pearl City; who taught vocal music at Junior High; and Miss Gertrude Abbas, Geneva, who taught at the elementary schools. Eade, who was principal of Union School, and all but two of the faculty at Union School have been transferred to the Blackhawk School. Two grades, morning kindergarten and the first grade will remain at Union School. Physics Job Filled The physics department vacancy at Freeport High School has been filled by Joseph P. Bissonnette, Goodman, Wis.

Parked Motorcycle Comes To Life And Smashes Car A parked motorcycle jumped into gear Wednesday and shot onto Highway 75 near Eastwood Inn, striking an east-bound car. School To Open Sept.

Plan Book Exchange School vill open Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 9 (DST) for a short session. Reading and spelling workbooks will be purchased at the school on he first day. This includes grades through 6. There will be a book exchange i Friday, Aug.

Frank Merlak, 106 W. Spring was fined $22 for speeding and failing to pay the city vehicle tax. Frederick Busch, 1250 S. Oak forfeited a $30.50 bond on charges of speeding and muffler violation. John Atwood, 1607 S.
