WARNS OF SHARP DETERIORATION IN EYESIGHT There has been a shocking deterioration in eyesight in thA generation since the World war, Dr. Matthew Luckiesh, an authority on scientific lighting, told the 21st annual midwest safety conference yesterday in Hotel Sherman in urging recognition of the need for a new profession, that of the "seeing specialist." The "seeing he said, will follow human eyes wherever they go into factories, playgrounds, streets, homes, theaters and by proper lighting and careful arrangement of objects seek to conserve eyesight and promote safety.

Dr. Luckiesh said that except for mechanical failure and carelessness, safety is "100 per cent a matter of seeing clearly." At the "evening session Dr. John H. Hazlehorst of the Illinois Institute of Technology's war training staff, spoke on the techniques of training workers to do their jobs the safe way. Dr.

H. T. Heald, presi-dent of the institute, presented certificates to 500 members of the graduating classes of the institute's industrial safety courses. QUINTS TRY ON NEW SUITS FOR THEIR U. S.

DEBUT CALLANDER, May 5 (JT) Busy modeling the snappily styled gray flannel, suits in which they will make their American debut at the launching of the "Quint Fleet" in Superior, the Dionne quintuplets today shrugged off the news that the ships they are to christen will not bear their names. "What does that matter?" asked Yvonne. "We are going there to christen the 'ships so we can help win the war not because they were to be named for us." United States olllilals have decided to name the ships after five early United States frigate captains. On the train, which is scheduled to leave nearby North Bay at 5 a. m.

Friday, the quints will wear blue and white check circular skirts, navy blue sweaters, bright red coats, and matching hats, shoes, and shoulder strap bags. In addition to Mr. and Mrs. Dionne, they will be accompanied by their sisters. Rose and Pauline, and their brothers, Daniel and Victory, the baby of the family.

Nina Tilton. Mrs. Agnes Davidson. Mrs. A Kendall county coroner's jury at Oswego expressed the opinion yesterday that a collision of two trains on the Fox river branch of the Burlington railroad five miles south of Aurora on April 26 could have been prevented if dispatchers, train operators, and a towerman had "functioned more perfectly." A verdict of accidental death was returned in the cases of four trainmen and mail clerks who died on the scene after a gasoline powered passenger car collided head-on with a freight locomotive.

One of 15 passengers died a week later in Aurora and his death will be investigated by Kane county authorities. Testimony given at the inquest tended to show that trainmen aboard the locomotive failed to give clearance to the passenger train a short distance south of the juncture of the branch line and the Burlington's main line near Montgomery. State's Atty. David Mcwhirter said he would study the inquest testimony before he decided whether to press charges of negligence against any railroad employe. Lottie Farley.
