Broadway MICHIGAN RIPS INDIANA WITH EASE, 30 TO 0 Cont'd from first sports page diana made only 32 yards by rushing against Michigan's 302. Michigan relied largely on its rushing game, completing five of only 13 passes for 71 yards.

The afternoon was sparked up with some hard hitting and fancy running by the Michigan backs. During the drive for the second touchdown, Jim Pace, apparently hopelessly trapped while trying to pass, swung far to the left and went 18 yards to the Indiana 20, but he did almost as much running before he got even with the line of scrimmage. Jim followed that up with a 20 yard touchdown run to conclude that sequence of plays. Later he returned a punt 34 yards to the Indiana 25, tho that threat failed when a pass was intercepted in the end zone. Tony Branoff and Lou Bal-dacci did the strongest battering by Michigan back field men.

Branoff got 69 yards, including a 41 yard run, on six tries and Baldacci netted 65 on 13. Real Corner Kicks Jim VanPelt teased the Hoosiers by some accurate punting. Twice he kicked out of bounds within the Indiana 1 yard line. Jim Maddock, who alternated with VanPelt at quarter back, did a smooth job of handling the team. Terry Barr, Michigan half back, returned the opening kickoff from his 7 yard line to the 32.

Right away the Wolverines showed they weren't fooling around. Barr hit for 6, then Branoff galloped down to the Indiana 21. Maddock piled thru center to the Indiana 7. After advancing to the 3, Maddock made a third down handoff to Barr who slashed at an angle thru his right guard for a touchdown. Winner, b. 8. Ted Easy MARKS SET AS SEASONENDSAT SPORTSMAN'S Charity Meet Helps to Top Bet Records BY MAURICE SHEVLIN Records fell right and left as the Illinois thorobred racing season and the 14th annual charity meeting of the Chicago Tribune Charities, came to an end yesterday at Sports- man's Park. A crowd of 19,117 established a new betting mark for the Cicero half miler of a new standard for daily double wagering, $144,934, was setr and Sir Tribal, winner of the featured $10,000 Arch Ward Memorial handicap, clipped a full second off the track record of 1:53 2-5 for a mile and a furlong. Breaks 1946 Record In addition, the day's mutuel handle raised to $204,991,091 the total betting at Illinois' seven thorobred race tracks to erase the old record of hung up in 1946.

The figures are based on 294 days of racing, which include 120 days at the Southern Illinois track of Fairmount Park and Cahokia Downs. The six day charity meeting drew 59,671 fans, who wagered $5,118,638, as compared with 58,792, who bet $5,105,218 for the same period last year. In taking the Arch Ward Memorial, Sir Tribal, a 4 year old gelding owned by Charles Fritz of, Chicago and ridden by Cicero's Tony Skoronski, scored by 12 lengths over the 2-1 favorite, Silver State, ridden by Job Jessop, who won the meeting's jockey championship. Adams Off Ox Third Adams Off Ox, with Harold Keene up, finished third in the field of eight, beaten 'only a neck by Silver State, but finished five lengths in front Knight's Reward. Sir Tribal paid $7.40 and his end of the purse, $6,500, raised to $64,505 his earnings for nine victories in 27 races this season.

The track was fast for his record run, accomplished in 1:52 2-5. The old mark was set by Kaslick four years ago. Arete Wins Handicap The supporting handicap, named for the Chicago Tribune Charities, and carrying a purse of $5,000, went to Arete, owned by Mrs. Rose Benedetto and Nick Guarino, and ridden by Jessop. The 6 year old gelding, winner of six other races this season, led for the entire mile and three eighths and wound up four lengths ahead of Best Fleet.

Other races on the card paid tribute to the members of the Illinois racing board, Chairman Paul Serdar, Frank R. Warton, William S. Miller, and Secretary Clement A. Nance. On third down, with the ball on the Indiana 38, Pace was trapped trying to pass, but broke to his left and got to the Indiana 20. On the next play Pace went just inside right end, hurdled one tackier and went for a touchdown Kramer's kick brought it to 14 to 0. After the ensuing kickoff, Indiana had the ball on its 22 yard line on fourth down Cichowski was back to kick A low pass from Center Arnold Steeves got away from Cichow ski into the end zone. Gene grabbed it but he was thrown for a safety by Tom Maentz, Michigan end. This gave Michigan its 16 to 0 half time lead.

Take Over on Downs Michigan got the first of its third quarter scoring opportunities when Cichowski failed to make a fourth down quarter back sneak at the Indiana 40. On third down with 8 to go, Maddock caught Branoff's pass on the 32 and ran to the 23. On second down thereafter, Maddock plunged 13 yards over center for a first down on the 6. Three successive smashes by Baldacci put it over and Kramer again kicked goal, making it 23 to 0. Michigan marched to its final touchdown after Cichow-ski's punt was downed on the Michigan 41.

On second down, Baldacci piled thru a hole in the right side of the Indiana line for 23 yards. Three plays later, Ed Hickey made a fine catch of Tom Hen dricks' pass on the 10.
