You may have trouble remembering the plot and anything else about this film, once you have left the theater, but there is no denying that there are laughs here, some sick and some not. "Repo Man" opens today at local theaters. It is Otto who tells one of the others that "all you repo men are out to lunch." They are. Lou Ccdrone Caine and Laurence Olivier. Caine is an Englishman who had defected to Russia, then is returned to England with a new face (and looking 20 years younger) and orders that he find a missing dossier and return it to the Russians.

Why the Russians would trust him is uncertain, but they do, and Sir Philip Kimberley (Caine), who has become an embarrassment to his Russian hosts, goes about his business with a considerable amount of bravado. Terence Young directed. Young directed some of the James Bond movies No," "Thunderball," "From Russia With and the new film has that kind of score. It does not, however, have much clarity. This is a movie that forces the viewer to work much harder than he should.

Olivier is the head of secret intelligence in England. He knows the real identity of the impostor, but he has made a deal with him. He also seems to have made deals with everyone else in the film, one that moves quite fast but leaves chaos in its wake. "Jigsaw Man," inordinately heavy with exposition, includes Susan George, Robert Powell and Charles Gray in its cast. Each has his (and her) share of silly lines.

The film, opening today at area houses, was done on location in Q(3BllfiMl3fl cocaine, it is humor that has emerged as part of the coke culture, humor that appeals to both the coke user and the non-user. We've always had some, of course. "Saturday Night Live" had its coke jokes, Richard Pryor was doing coke humor long before the general public was aware of what it was, and any number of films have reached for coke laughs. It's spacy. That may be the best way to describe it, and if you want to see a film that is all coke, beginning to end, by all means catch "Repo Man." "Repo Man" is funny, wildly so, for the first 20 minutes, then it begins to simmer, delivering its laughs less frequently but delivering them all the same.

The film has a plot, but you don't want to peer too closely at it. "Repo Man" is life as a coker might see it, and, indeed, the principal character is a user. This is unfortunate and irresponsible on the part of the producers, but making protest against this is like making protest against the wind. Emilio Estevez is the space cadet who loses his job at a supermarket the same day he loses his girl to his best friend. As he wanders the town, he is approached by a car reposses-sor who dupes the boy into picking up a wanted car.

Otto (Estevez) doesn't want to be a repo man. It's dangerous work, but the money is good, so he accepts the job, one that takes him through the seamier alleys of Los Angeles. There, we run into robber-punks, the 'JIGSAW MAN' is a botch. Though it includes some big names in its cast, the film looks as though it was made and released in a hurry, the distributors hoping to get whatever they could in return. The script is a muddle.

You don't exactly need a plot guide, but it would help to have one. "Jigsaw Man" is a film you really have to pursue, and even when you do, even when you pick up all that is there, the plot is so complicated it is almost tiring. In truth, the movie does not bore. It is better, say, than "Bolero" and is infinitely better than "The Initiation" or "Sleepaway Camp," but those are cheap shots, and "Jigsaw Mi-n" was meant to be more than that. Based on the novel by Dorothea Bennett, the new film stars Michael Rodriguez Brothers, who are also in the repo business, a young girl who says she is looking for a car carrying extraterrestrials, Secret Service men who all look alike, and a loboto-mized nuclear scientist who is riding around in a very hot car.

The scientist says he has been lobotomized. Actually, coke can produce the same effect, so you don't want to take this man at his word. "Repo Man" is a model of bad taste, but then what did you expect? It is also very funny, particularly when a junkyard denizen, another space man, gives Otto his theories on space, life, time and the cookie cutter. "I think about that a lot," he says. He probably does, and he isn't the only ditso in this movie.

Others are the television evangelists who appear throughout the film, and Otto's parents, who spend most of their time watching the evangelists on the TV screen while Mom smokes pot. Otto needs money, fast, so he goes home, takes a can out of the refrigerator (one marked looks at his parents and says, "I love you, Mom. I love you, too, Dad.
