His performance is flawless.

Eva Marie Saint, a newcomer to the screen, makes an auspicious debut as the wistful, innocent Edie. Karl Maiden is memorable in several scenes, especially those in which he faces the cowed men and berates them for their silent acceptance of gang rule. Lee Cobb is well cast as the domineering racketeer. World War I Nurse Tel Is of Experience Miss Louise Hostman, 74, of 1600 E. 56th night nursling supervisor at Billings hos pital for 20 years, was among those who' attended the 53d convention of the Illinois State Nurses association yesterday in the Morrison hotel. Miss Hostman, a nurse for 45 years, served with a Chi cago unit which went to a British hospital in the north of France in World War I- In France from June, 1917, until February, 1919, Miss Hostman told of air raids on moonlit nights and of the des perate need for added help the first few months. When 35 nurses and 75 hospital corps finally came, they were called the reinforcements." 1 The name stuck, right thru the war, she said Whenever members of the new group were mentioned they were called the reinforce ments." Miss Hostman retired from Billings in 1949, but since then -has worked part time at nursing.

One of the earliest members of the state nurses association Miss Hostman joined it in 1909 when she was registered as nurse upon graduation from Illinois Training school after three years of studies.
