He has selected a knowing and capable company to enact his roles, and provided them with lines that are as bright and sharp as so many small diamonds, and let us hope that they are cast to a better audience tnan the recipients of the proverbiaF pearls. vi i i eor n'j i The eternal wiles of Eve, as practiced by one of her oppor tunistic descendants, are the basis of his story, surely not a new one, which makes it all the more remarkable that the creator has shaped it into such a refreshing, n7A if- zestful, and discerning tale. The denizens of The Theater have had a great deal of fun pointing playful fingers at Hollywood and all its works and wealthy idi ocies, and here's a literate, laugh able comeback which does a very complete job of turning the ta bles. Just as there 4sn't a dull line in the script, neither is there a dull person in the cast.

I here by torgive iette Davis for a couple of atrocious pictures which preceded this as an aging ac tress, a successful careerist but a shaken and lonely woman, with an uncomfortably acute picture of herself and a bitter wit, she's terrific. I can also understand why she married Gary Merrill dur ing the progress of this film; as her suitor, forced to battle her insecurities, he's Enormously lik able.
