Heretofore, from time to time, fires have been built in the streets on election nights, and prior to elections boys have been in the habit of collecting boxes, barrels, and resorting on the night of the election to tearing down fences, as well as to other depredations, to secure material for these fires, all of which is not only against the law, but dangerous and reprehensible. The police will exercise the strictest vigilance to prevent these practices and arrest all offenders, but the board feels that the citizens can and ought to co-operate with the police to stop them by exerting their authority in their homes end their influence generally against such infractions of the law. The board therefore takes this means of bringing the matter to the attention of citizens, and asks their aid in the enforce ment of the law. SHERLOCK SWANN. JOHN B.
