The following statement front the Christian 'brethern was made to a representative of the Leader today: "The Christian brethern of this city have been deeply grieved over the false, malicious, evil and untrue statements made by Mrs. John Snyder as to her treatment by the Brethern. and by Brother Nichols on his recent visit to this city. "These are'uniformly false and are the results of a jealous and are the fruit of an inherited natural jealousy, a disposition that at times makes her subject to hysterical fits and a mania which makes her act like an insane person, whose foolish talk should have no weight upon the mind of any sensible individual. By her hysterical talk she has succeeded in enlisting the sympathies of the negnbors in and about her, whom she has almost convinced that the Brethern and Mr.

Nichols, and her husband were abusing and mal-treating her. "The statement that she has been advised by Mr. Nichols to take herself and her four children and jump into th.e Mississippi river and drown herself, is absolutely false, as may be substantiated by six reputable citizens acquainted with the facts, and who heard every word spoken by Mr- Nichols at the time. "The facts are these. Mr.

Snyder desired to purchase a farm In Minnesota but his wife objected, she said that before she would go to live in Minnesota near the Smith sisters, she would go and drown herself. The allusion'Mr. Nichols made to tliis will be announced later. Mrs. Snyder has made the statement to the neighbors that her being jealous of John on account ot the sisters is she was to blame and John was not to "blame.

It was all her fault, she says, She made tbe statement several different times, once to Matron Hill, ami confirmed it on several late, occasions and again to Mrs, Wells when sen stated that she was ready to make this acknowledgement to anyone desiring the same. in relation to Mr. Snyder I would say that since his residence in Davenpori for about three years, with a few exceptions he arose in the mornins and prepared his own breakfast, liis own luncheon or dinner, and after doing his own days work, often helped cleanse the dishes and clean up the house, often doing the family Who of you readers would do this, and then think tbat his wife was a good housekeper?"
