The tendency Hsordirly elements of society to encrust rneelr on successful parties is an evil which is formerly worked mischief in this corurnonitr, and which cannot be too promptly aaj sternly repressed, whenever or on whatever 6ide it is attempted to be revived. The turbulent spirits who Bometimea attach tbem-pelvea to political organizations, and manifest what they consider their zeal, bat which is In reality their love of violence, by hootings and rosnings at political opponents, and occasion-any by wanton acts of insult and outrage towards individuals, or by interference with meetings, processions, are a nuisance deprecated by all respectable parties and disowned by respectable men. It is the most impudent presumption in the perpetrators of Isw'fsa and ruffianly acts to bring into discredit political associations composed of men of character, and who have interests in the uool order of society. It is not by the violent class of the community that healthful political hangee are accomplished, but, on the contrary, iUeir efficacy is only for evil, and serves to impair theirepntation and influence of those who have accomplished useful results by legitimate ajrentiee, and who ought not to be made to carry the weight of a ruffianly element which is better suited to the wild woods ot the West than to a great centre of intelligence and civilization. Jruch demonstrations a spirit of wantonness aad rowdyism are provocative of acts of violence, and even those mere mischievous freaks which spring from thoughtlessness ot the moling and inconsiderate, while simply foolish and ridiculous, may be availed of to the injury of a respectable party by those who are watching to seize upon individual indiscretions and represent them for partisan purposes as reflecting the spirit and character of a people generally.

i-A regard to those more serious acts which tend to a broach of the peace, the police, which has heretofore deemed it proper to have certain features of political processions dispensed with, may be expected to act in like manner with all demonstrations' which have a tendency to dis turb the jcod order of the communiry. It is not in the interest of any party, but for the community 33 a whole, that our concern in this nutter awakened: it is for its welfare, pros-perry and happiness, both materially and moral-iy. which are all involved in the preservation of order and in the uninterrupted enjoyment of the tights and privileges ot citizens, without expo-tare to insult or outrage. The larsra outlay so cheerfully contributed in supporting the manifold agencies for the preservation 01 peace and order can only he justified by securing the end of this liberal expenditure, and the people have a right to expect it. 1 gePan'-Asglicajt Convention This body, hich is in session in London, is exciting a good cea! of comment in the English press.

The Loudon newspapers generally express doubts of any great practical advantages arising from it. The London Times declares that the assembly has no power to define doctrines. This, however, seems not to have been the object of the eemblage, which, as we understand it, was to Lriog together the leading ecclesiastical persons of the same communion throughout the world, vitas, view of strengthening the common bond of church unity, and perhaps consulting as to what coald be done to promote the unity of Christendom. Other denominations have assemblages more cr lesb to keep alive the spirit of fraternity snd promote the general interests of religion, without attempting to promulgate ar-ticlcrvof faith, a work which they deem nnne- U1 i.u.o rc aiTLnuy ueui.evi ue creeds, articles, confessions and careehisms of ueir respective churches. That the council assembled in London have any expectation of about a union of the Roman, Greek a i Eng-ii-th churches, as seems to be imputed to them by a London correspondent of the New Tiraes, is not at all probable.

The writer phow8 Ins ignoraiice of a eiibject which he disci, sea with a tocfideiit sir, by alleging that st head of a movement having such an object are such men aj Archbishop ilannin? and Dr. Newman, two divines who are not in the Euarlibh Church at all, bat have long so joined the Eomaa Catholic communion. the London Times shows that iris not a7S well posted when it speaks ot' the Bishop of Louisiana, ia attendance at the council, as 'EUhi ilev.
