I NEWS ABOUT TOWN Mrs. Edward Miller of 13823 Forrest avenue, Dolton, was taken to St. Francis hospital in Blue Island Tuesday, December 23, and has been very ill with pneumonia. Miss Dorothy Lau of 13833 Lincoln avenue, Dolton, underwent an emerg- eny appendix operation Christmas Day at St. Francis hospital in Blue Island.

Mrs. Clarence M. Crane of 14313 South Wallace street, returned home Saturday, December 27, from Ingall's Memorial hospital in Harvey after be- ina- ill with pneumonia. Mrs. Emily Kipley of Dolton entertained with a dinner Christmas Eve at her home and had as her guests Mr.

and Mrs. Edmund Claussen and Mr and Mrs. Edward Claussen of Evanston, 'Miss Doris Brach of Austin and Miss Maxine Ferrell of Chicago. Mr and Mrs John C. Wernicke of Dolton, entertained with a 5 o'clock dinner Christmas Day, in honor of Mr.

Wernicke's birthday. Guests were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Wernicke and sons Ellery and Duane of Dolton; Mrs. Anna Boesenbreg and daughter Eleanor; Mr.

and Mrs. Paul Thoren, daughter Joy Ann and son Lloyd; Mr. and Mrs. Karl E. Schultz and daughter Dorothy; and Miss Bette Dunham of Harvey.

In the evening- Mr, and Mrs. Chester Lenover of Dolton and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Wernicke, son Wilfred and daughter Helen of Roseland came and enjoyed the evening. Mr.

and Mrs. Robert Sheahan of Dolton entertained relatives and friends Christmas Eve. Mrs. Sheahan's mother, Mrs. Fred Mohr.

of Momence, 111., visited here all last week, and on Friday evening, December 26, Mr. Mohr joined them until Saturday evening when they returned to their home in Momence. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert F.

Engle from Richmond, were guests at the H. J. Anders home from December 25th to the 28th. Miss Mary Elizabeth Anders entertained five girl friends at a one o'clock luncheon on Friday, December 26. They were Miss Marion Benedict from East Chicago; Miss Elizabeth Kaiser from Evanston; Miss 'Mary Alice McCaa from Flossmoor; Miss Jeanne Olson from Harvey; and Miss Harriet Reich from Dolton.

Miss Marion Benedict rendered several beautiful vocal selections which were enjoyed oy all. On night, December 27, Mr. and Mrs. Hr J. Anders entertained several of their friends from this community at an eight Vclock dinner party.

Those who were present were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Waterman, Mr. and Mrs. Fergn Fike, Mr.

and Mrs. N. M. Tourtellotte, Mr. and Mrs.

Herbert Engel, and Mr. and Mrs. William F. Hayes. Mr.

and Mrs. W. L. Tourtellotte and Mrs. Mabel Van Deursen were unable to attend.

Mr. and Mrs. L. R. Horn and Mrs.

Julia Pauls had as their dinner guests on Christmas day Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Engel and Mr.

and Mrs. H. J. Anders and family. Russell Schaefer, who is a radio operator in the U.

S. Navy, will leave Thursday, January 1, for Washington, D. after enjoying the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William 14129 Park avenue, Dolton.

At present Russell is assigned to the Navy experimental laboratory in Washington, D. but expects to be transferred to the U. S. Naval Academy ar Anapolis, to continue his studies in radio work in the near future. Corinne Trimble, daughter of Mr.

and Mrs. Russell Trimble of Riverdale, is home from her studies at the University of Michigan to be with her parents during the holidays. S'he will return to her classes on January 5. Local students home from school for the holidays include Harriet Martin and William Stanley, University of Illinois; Corinne Trimble, Ruth Engel and Warren Claussen, University of Michigan; Ruth Bachmann, Kalamazoo college; Herbert Siss, Concordia College, Fort Wayne, Edward Krueger. Concordia College, River Forest, Harriet Reich, Elmhurst College; Lester Brookfelt, Wabash College; Jerome Pietsch, St.

Bede's, Peru, 111. Mrs. John Schukei of Riverdale was hostess to the following guests at a dinner party Christmas Eve: Mr. and Mrs. Al.

Miller and Mrs. J. Derven of Chicago; Mrs. W. Goos, Mr.

and Mrs. Willis Newman, and Grandmother Goos of Riverdale. Later Mr. and Mrs. H.

Christian and Mr. and Mrs. R. Filette of Chicago visited during the evening. Mr.

and Mrs. John Wordelmann, 67 East 137th street, Riverdale, announce the engagement of their daughter, Eleanore Louise to Pvt. 'Bernard Petkus, stationed at Fort Knox, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Petkus, 57 East 136th street.

Mrs. R. Nimtz of Riverdale entertained the Jolly Six club at her home evening, December 22, at a Christmas party. Gifts were exchanged and a delicious luncheon was served. The members included Mrs.

Nimtz, Mrs. H. Wilkens, Mrs. Louis Miller of Chicago, Mrs. Carl iMotting- er, Mrs.

Louisa Steinhauer, and Mrs. Lawrence Michalski. Winners at bunco were: Mrs. Mottinger, first; the hstess, second; Mrs. Miller, third; and Mrs.

Michalski, consolation. Miss Charlotte Hochberger of Chicago is spending the Christmas vacation at the home of her cousin, Minette Nelson in Riverdale. Mr. and Mrs. Harold Rampke of 238 E.

136th street entertained the following guests Christmas day: Mrs. Ida Rampke, La Verne 'Commings, Ted Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Lewis and sun of Roseland. Mr.

Fred Waten of Watseeka, 111., is spending a few days with the Harry Waterstraat family of Riverdale. Mrs. Rose Morris of Atlantic street spent four days of last week with her sister, Mrs. Shcauer of Chicago. Miss Margaret Wolke of Blue Island spent the week end with Mrs.

Erwin cf Atlantic street, Riverdale. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Kliefoth of Indiana avenue spent Sunday visiting friends in Lyons, 111.

Mr. James Mageaa of Riverdale is visiting friends and relatives in Alabama. Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Glowers of 137th street spent Christmas with their parents in Hammond.

Mr. Harry Waterstraat of 13905 Wabash avenue is convalescing in the Ingalls Memorial hospital in Harvey after an appendicitis operation last week Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Richard Hall of 13931 Wentworth avenue, returned from Alabama Saturday, visiting friends and relatives.

Mrs. W. Hornett of Riverdale entertained her grandmother, Mrs. Critchfield of Griffith, Christmas day. Mr.

Carl Cullins and family of 13902 Wentworth avenue, were confined to their home last week with a severe cold. Mrs. Wayne Martin and son Darell of 13617 Indiana avenue, are spending a vacation in Minnesota visiting her folks and relatives. The L. Sutton family and Gladys Weimer of Riverdale were guests of the R.

Ohrt family Christmas day. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Zesch, pf Ivanhoe entertained Mr.

and Mrs. Jos. Barbour and son and Mr. 'Harold Mangerson of Chicago for dinner Saturday evening. Ronald Diekman of Flint, arrived here Monday to spend the holidays with his aunt and uncle, Miss Grace and Herbert Diekman of Dolton.

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kurz of Riverdale returned home Monday, December 29, after enjoying a two day visit with their son, Frater Elmo, at the Franciscan Ohio. Mr. and Mrs.

Peter Miller of Riv- with navy blue accessories. Jack Alexander acted as best man. After the ceremony the bridal party marched down the aisle between two lines of soldiers from 'Gamp Wheeler who were guests at the wedding. A chicken dinner was served in the church parlors for the members of the bridal party and the soldiers. The young couple spent several days in Atlanta, Ga.

Mrs. Bos reutrned to Dolton Monday, December 29, and for the present will reside at the home of her parents. (Mrs. Fisher had planned to accompany htr daughter and attend the wedding but was unable to do so because of illness. Funeral Services Held Dec.

23 for Carl Lindell Funeral services for Carl Lindell, 62 years old, 15239 Lexington avenue, Harvey, who was fatally injured when struck by a car near his home Saturday evening, December 20, were held Tuesday afternoon, Decmeber 23, at Tabor Lutheran church, Harvey, with the Rev. Olaf Nelson officiating. Interment was in Oak Lawn cemetery, Thornton. Mr. Lindell was the-father of Harry Lindell, operator of the Standard service station at Lincoln and Park avenues, Dolton.

The deceased, accompanied by his son Eugene, who was on a Christmas furlough from army service, was on his way to attend a lodge meeting when he was struck by a car driven by John Hovancak, 18, of 15741 Willard avenue, Harvey, at 155th and Lexington avenue. He passed away several hours later at the Ingalls Memorial hospital, Harvey. Mr. Lindell had been employed at the Buda company for more than 40 years as a blacksmith, and was a member of the Buda 20 year club. He was born in Vest Gotland, Sweden, February 24, 1879, and has been a resident of Harvey for more than 40 years.

Besides 'his widow, Hilma, he leaves seven children, Harry and Mrs. Evelyn Ritter of Riverdale, Eugene, who is in army service, Carl, Albert and Mrs. Edith Neubert of Harvey, and Mrs. Bert Anderson, of Warsaw, Ind. Monastery, Cleveland, erdale are parents of a daughter born December 10 at St.

Francis hospital, Blue Island. Mr. and Mrs. John Moenich, 148 W. 117th street, announce the engagement of their daughter Eleanor, to Thomas M.

Kinney, son of Mr. and Mrs. John E. Kinney of Riverdale. Local Soldier Thanks Persons for Yule Gifts One of our local soldiers, Frank Schaafsma, who is in army service on the west coast, appealed to The Pointer in a letter received this week to thank all his relatives and friends in Riverdale, Dolton and vicinity for the many gifts and greeting cards he received for Christmas.

In his letter Frank states "I've received so many greeting cards and things from friends and relatives in Riverdale and Dolton and it would take me a week to thank them all in personal letters, and now that we're on the move to a different location, I just don't have time since duties keep us on the move most of the time and what free hours we have we spend in much needed rest." Frank gave no address but his letter was mailed from Camp Luis Obispo, Cal. Fisher-Bos In a simple but impressive military wedding at the German Lutheran church of the Redeemer in Macon, Saturday afternoon, December 20, Miss Evelyn Fisher, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Fisher of Dolton, became the bride of Pvt. Louis J.

Bos, of Roseland, who is stationed at Camp Wheeler, with the Rev. Shelby officiating at the double ring ceremony. The bride wore a dusty rose lightweight woolen dress with brown accessories and a corsage of gardenias. She also had a large bouquet of red roses. Her maid of honor, Miss Catey Assoc.

for Childhood Education to Meet Jan. 10 Educational legislation will be discussed at the next meeting of the Association for Childhood Education Chicago Area Saturday morning, January 10, at 185 N. Wabash avenue, with Miss Ethel Woolhiser, chairman The speakers, K. D. Waldo, superintendent of schools, Aurora, and Miss Lottie OINeill, education chairman and state representative, Downers Grove, and Mrs.

Harry Mulberry, legislative chairman of the Illinois 'Congress of Parents and Teachers, Chicago, will present a symposium on the subject We Work Together for Educational Legislation." Green stated' "In the interest of the defense of our nation and the State of Illinois, it is requested that you, as the head of a law enforcement agency, within our state, meet with me in the auditorium of the (Centenial building. Springfield, 111., on Tuesday, December 30, at 1 o'clock. It is of extreme importance that plans and efforts of all law enforcement agencies of our state be co-or- dinated in order that the greatest efficiency be in this emergency. Your presence and cooperation will enable Illinois to remain true to her illustrious history of being foremost in the ranks nf defense of our country." St. Mary's Church to Hold "Prayer for Peace" Services In response to the request of President Roosevelt, Archbishop Stritch, has asked all the Catholic churches to have a public service of "Prayer for Peace" on New Year's day.

The parishioners of St. Mary's church can visit the Blessed Sacrament during the day privately. In the evening from 8 to 9 o'clock there will be a Holy Hour before the Blessed Sacrament. Garden Club Meeting Friday, January 9 A round table discussion on the care of indoor plants and flowers will be presented at the next meeting of the Ivanhoe Garden club Friday evening, January 9, at eight o'clock at the Riverdale village hall. All persons of the community who are interested are invited to attend.

Washington P.T.A. Meeting January 8 Mrs. Mata Roman Friend, former head of the home economics department of the University of Chicago laboratory schools, will speak on the subject, "The Family Dinner Table," at the next meeting of the Washington P. T. A.

at three o'clock Thursday afternoon, January 8. Mrs. Friend is also the author of two books, "Living In Our Homes" and "Earning and Spending Our Family Incomes." Former Dolton Boy Receives High E.O.T.C. Honor Local friends of Donald Krause, son of Mr. and Mrs.

Elmer Krause, former residents of Dolton, will be pleased to learn that he recently was commissioned a major in the R.O.T.C. at Lane Technical high school in Chicago. Donald earned the rank of major, which is the second highest ranking officer in the largest Junior R.O.T.C. regiment in the United States, by competitive examinations in a regiment of 1300 cadets. The Krause family now resides at 1806 N.

Further entertainment will be furnished by a brass quartette from the Thornton township high school. Mrs. S. C. Kehl of (Homewood, Third District radio chairman, and Miss Doris Calcott, president of the Dolton-'Riverdale Junior Woman's club will be guests of the Woman's club for the evening.
