Cbiraso Trihnne Press Service. BERLIN, Nov. 8. The fear that has been gnawing at the hearts of all Jews ever since one of their faith killed Wilhelm Gustloff, Nazi leader in Switzerland, has turned into tragic reality for the Jews who si ill live in pan-Germany. They have known for years that if any attempt against the life of a German was made by a Jew they would suffer violent reprisals from the anti-Semitic groups.

IGustloff teas killed Feb. 4, 1336, in Vavos, Switzerland, by David Frankfurter, 26 years old, a Jewish medical student. Frarkfurter was sentenced to eighteen years in prison on Dec. 1936.1 Nazi reprisals for yesterday's shooting of Ernst von Rath, secretary in the Germany embassy at Paris, by Kerschel Grynszpan, 17 years old, a Folish Jew, began today. Drench Jews with Hose.

Kassel was the first town to vent its rage. Jews were driven out of their homes and herded together in a public square, where a fire hose was turned on them. The drenched Jews then were chased into the icy basements of a brewery. An official communique merely said that as an answer to the Jewish provocation in Paris, in the shape of a cowardly attempted murder, big spontaneous demonstrations of the public against the Jewish population took place in Kessen." Kassel and Bebra were among the Hessen cities where reprisals against Jews were carried out. In Eerlin many stores owned by Jews were closed this afternoon in fear of attack.

Some Jewish restaurants and coffee houses were closed by the police to restrict the possibility of clashes." Berlin's chief of police announced that all Jews have been disarmed." For weeks the police have searching homes of Jews and confiscating whatever weapons they had. The police had requested the Jewish owners of weapons to turn them over voluntarily." Seize Knives of Jews. "The result shows ciearly," it was c-airi, "what a great amount of arms were and are still in the hands of Jews in Berlin. The action netted 2,553 knives or knuckles, 1,702 firearms, and 20,000 rounds of ammunition." The Jewish Cultural organization which, under official supervision, organized concerts and theater performances and similar social functions for the Jewish population, was dissolved. All Jewish publications were suspended.

In Nazi party circles it was declared that Reichsfuehrer Hitler has taken the reprisals against the Jews into his own hands. Nazi leaders said that Hitler listened to the report of the attempt on the life of Von Rath in Paris with ominous silence and mother of James and John JSovau. mineral Thursday. Nov. 10.
