Other Mississippi lyway states protecting woodie are Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, and Wisconsin. The state conservation departments had requested a closed season on wood ducks from the United States Fish and Wildlife service, which supervises hunting of all migratory birds. The wood duck population in the Mississippi lyway is dangerously low. Vulnerable at Sunset States choosing continued protection for wood ducks will have general waterfowl hunting hours of from one-half hour before sunrise to sunset.
