Chappuis got 5 yards around Iowa's right end. Chappuis plunged for 11 yards. Chappuis passed to Don McNeill, cutting deep thru the Iowa secondary, for first down on the Hawks' 39. Michigan Takes 14-0 Lead Chappuis hit right guard for a yard and then smashed thru left tackle for 8 more. Wiese went to Iowa's 12 on a spinner and Chappuis completed the rout at Iowa's left guard with a splendid cut back to pick up his blockers.

Brieske made it 14 to 0. Iowa apparently was helpless. The Wolverines' linemen opened gaping holes and Wiese and Chappuis marched to Iowa's 8 yard line, a distance of 33 yards in eight plays. Then Chappuis plunged for four yards, but fumbled and Jim Lawrence, Iowa center, recovered on his 4 -yard line. Derricotte returned Smith's punt 12 yards to Iowa's 34.

Michigan advanced to Iowa's 10 and this time Derricotte's pass on second down was intercepted by Smith four yards from the Iowa goal.
