Called RUC for River Utility Craft the twin screw-like revolving pontoons carry the vehicle through shallow or deep water, through swamps and muck, bogs and snow. A $1,100,000 contract with Chrysler Corporation has been signed for ten prototypes. The revolving pontoons are filled with rigid foam so that the RUC will float even if they are punctured. Movement across firm surfaces can be made by rolling sideways with both pontoons rolling in the same direction.

Total demand for petroleum products-including domestic consumption and export requirements-averaged 13.3 million barrels daily, an increase of almost 700.000 barrels a day, or 5.4 per cent, over 1967. More than 400.000 barrels of the increase resulted from the high domestic demand for motor gasoline and jet fuel, Frank N. Ikard, president of the Institute, said.

Crude oil production averaged 9.1 million barrels daily, an increase of 335 barrels, or 3.8 per cent, over 1967. The net production of natural gas amounted to a record 19.8 trillion cubic feet, an increase of 6 per cent over 1367. Since 19G2, the ruling stated, the Bank of Hampton Roads "has found itself in an increasingly poor competitive position' to three of the largest banking institutions in the State, all of which have offices in Newport News.

The Bank of Hampton Roads has deposits, exclusive of those of governmental units, totaling $16 million.
