Peterson, a gas-troenterologist in Washington who lived in Bolton Hill and was a former dean at the Johns Hopkins Medical School, died last Monday while vacationing on the East Caribbean island of Saint-Barthelemy, A memorial service for Dr.

Peterson, 60, will be held at 1 p.m. Deon 12 at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 5603 N. Charles St. Since last year, he had been associate chief of staff for education at the -Veterans Administration Medi-ciil in Washington. In the 1970s, he held both teaching and administrative positions with the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions.

'resident of Bolton Hill for the past two years, Dr. Peterson first came to Baltimore in 1969 when he appointed to head the Health Services Research and Development Center, a program developed by the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions to provide low cost health care to local communities. 41 In' 1972, he was named dean of the newly created Johns Hopkins School of Health Services, which offered bachelor's degrees in the nursing and physician's assistant fields. The school closed in 1978. v.

While at Hopkins, Dr. Peterson was4 an associate professor in both the" School of Medicine and the School of Hygiene and Public Health. A native of Seattle, Dr. Peterson returned there in 1978 to hold teaching and administrative positions at the University of Washington. He was first an associate professor of health' services and medicine and then director of community medicine in the School of Public and Community Medicine.

"In 1984, he became the chief of staff at the Veterans Administrations Hospital in Tacoma, a position he held for two years. From there he moved to the VA hospital post Washington, D.C. Before he moved to Baltimore in 1969, Dr. Peterson had held positions in St.1 Louis for seven years. He was associate professor and later chief of medicine at the Max C.

Starkloff City Hospital there. Earlier, he was an1 assistant professor of medicine and-director of the division of gastroenterology at Washington University! 2nd an assistant physician at Barnes and Affiliated Hospitals in St. Louis. Peterson received his tor's- degree from Stanford University "in' 1950, and his medical degree with honors from the University of Washington in Seattle in 1954. did his internship at Philadelphia-General Hospital and was an assistant resident at Barnes and Affiliated Hospitals in St.

Louis. In-1960, he received his doctorate in-biochemistry from the Rockefeller Institute in New York City, where he was a graduate fellow for four-years. During this time, he was an assistant physician at the Rocke-fflef "Institute, and worked in the outpatient services department of BeHevue Hospital's cardiology clinic After obtaining his Ph.D., he was GEORGE BLEDSOE lege before becoming a salesman for Remington Rand, which later became part of Sperry Corp. He worked mostly out of its Washington office before being transferred in 1952 to the company's Baltimore office as regional manager. In 1956, Mr.

Bledsoe retired, but only for a year. He took up work again at RCA where he helped develop sound systems for 13 years. After living in Arlington, for 20 years, he moved to Sun City, in 1969. In 1977 he moved west, living in Tucson in the winter and Denver in the summer. Mr.

Bledsoe, formerly affiliated with the Warren Masonic Lodge in Baltimore, was a 50-year member of the Scottish Rite and had attained the rank of a 32nd-degree Mason and Shriner. He is survived by his wife, the former Helen Linville; his sister, Lee Gorsuch of Broadmead; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services were held Nov. 23 at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens. William H.

Furlong William H. Furlong, a retired city fire captain, died of cancer Friday night at Franklin Square Hospital. Services for Mr. Furlong, who was 65, will be at 10 a.m. tomorrow at the Leonard J.

Ruck funeral establishment, 5305 Harford Road. Born in Baltimore, he attended Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He worked for the Glenn L. Martin Co. during World War II before joining the fire department Dec.

4, 1944, at the age of 22, following his father, Capt. Guy Furlong, who also was a firefighter. William Furlong, a member of the department for 41 years, served at Truck Company No. 4. When he was promoted to lieutenant at the age of 29, he was the youngest city firefighter ever to be promoted to that rank.

He is survived by one daughter, Barbara Bachur of Towson, a member of the Baltimore County Council; one son, James G. Furlong of Baltimore; a sister, Ethel R. Glacken of Baltimore; and three grandchildren, Officer Thomas P. Bachur of the Baltimore County Police Depart-' ment, Mary Regina Bachur and Wesley David Bachur, all of Towson. MALCOLM PETERSON a trainee in gastroenterology at Cornell University College of Medicine in New York City and then a research fellow at New York Hospital.

In 1961, he was a visiting fellow in gastroenterology at Central Middlesex Hospital in London. Extremely concerned about the possibility of nuclear, war and the harmful effects of nuclear reactors, Dr. Peterson wrote several articles about the subject and was co-chairman of the Scientists Committee for Radiation Information from 1957 to I960. A member of Physicians for Social Responsibility, he was on the executive committee of its Washington chapter from 1980 to 1983. He also was a member of the Society for Health and Human Values.

He had written numerous research papers and articles on gastroenterology and public health issues, and had served on the editorial boards of several medical journals. A fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American College of Physicians, he was president of the Physicians Forum and belonged to the American Federation for Clinical Research and the American Public Health Association, and held memberships in several other medical organizations. Dr. Peterson was a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honor society, and had served on many medical advisory committees during his career. He served as a laboratory technician in the Army on a hospital ship from 1946 to 1948.

He is survived by his wife, Deborah M. Prout; a daughter, Lee Peterson Baker of Minneapolis; and two sisters, Janice Dudley of Culver City, and Lorna Maynard of Redwood City, Calif. The family suggested that memorial contributions may be made to the Malcolm L. Peterson Memorial Fund of the University of Washington in Seattle. George Z.

Bledsoe George Z. Bledsoe, a native of Baltimore and a former executive at Remington Rand, died Nov. 18 at Tucson Medical Center in Tucson, after a long illness. He was 87.
