The bearings of the daily journalism of this metropolis, on the Presidential question of the present day, are very different from those which existed during the election of 1848, when Gen I Taylor as successful. us state the precise difference.

In 18-18, "en. Taylor was the Whig nominee, and Gen. Cass tho Democratic candi date, i the whole daily journalism of this city, embracing circulation ol one hundred and twenty five thoitsand theets per day, was, more or less, favor of Gen. Taylor's election There was only one solitary journal of any importance, that supported the nomination of Gen Cass, and that was the Tammany organ ot that day, which probably had a circulation of four, five or six thousand. Now, let us take a look at the position of the newspapers of the city, at this lime, on the same question.

The tendencies and tone of New York journalism in 1852 are exactly the reverse of those which it manifested in 1848 There are only two papersrof any circulation decidedly favor of Gen. Scott, and one or two others rather coldly submitting to his nomination The whole of the other portion ot the of all parlies, is opposed to his triumph, working with more or Irss viyor tor the success of Gen Pierce, Ihe Democratic candidate. Tlie aggregate circulation of the daily journals of this city is now nearly a hundred and forty thousand sheets per dny and ot this number there are one hundi ed ihoutiuid ihcets per day openly or quietly op posed to Gen Scott's election and triumph. Thobe arc singular and unquestionable facts, nnd we challenge the denial of their mam accuracy, from any quarter Bul how comes the newspaper press of this metropolis to be so entirely reversed from that which it was in 1848 'I he fuel arises from the belief that the great commercial interpsls ot the Kmpire City, and of this republic, more safe in the hands of Gen Pierce, and Democratic administration, than if placed tho influence of Gen Scott, connected with i i a Seward, and the ten dencies of his dangerous abolition policy towards the South II is objected, however, that the a Buren interest, eqmlly fren soil, arid hos tile lo the South, is in favor of Gen Pierce, but we must remember that the free soil tendencies of Martin Van Buren, nnd his partizans, i re not i bul adopted merely for tho nonce" to defeat Gas 1 i a personal feoltnfr towardslnm The Van Buren interest of this city has always been in favor of the gene- rnl commercial nnd i i a i policy of the Democratic pirly, originating in Southern politi cnns But the is very different with Wil IT Seward, started as a politician on ol a i mn-onry, and added to it thai, of i i i i abolitionism, and exery other nm of a dangerous endency, that his i i a camtnl consists of principles in deadly untagoniim to (hi- Union nnd the prosppnty of coinmercnllmternstb ol this great city and this confedi racy Jli-re therefore, we disclose the remarkable facts sho vmg the position of the New York press on the pending Presidential question, and its causes The same feelines and the same C'TUSCS operate on the whole Union, to greater or axtent GUI Taylor commanded much more confidence nmong the ma-ses, nnd eepe i evcitod it 'long the commercial tlnn ever Gen "Scott cm create, supported as In is the violent socialists, abolitionists, and ni'icol rod repliblicuns of the worst type, and of the most destructive pnncip'es and tendencies I hcbe are settled characteristics of the present c-impnign Who can pugn their accura- llcraU 1 Cost of The i is a statement of i avernge expi i a of the several administrations ot the General Government, for the last compiled from the official docu i lickson's administration, Burcii's I a i and Tyler's Polk 3 I'nylor in 1 rillmore's By this account, bavs the New York Post, it appears tint tlie Government cost the people under Iickbon's administration, less than half a bus cost under the a i i a i of Presidents 'I aylor nnd Tillmore, both being pe nods of pence It appears thnt we are mnv in tune of prcif und peace about 000 more fir our government a it cost tin- a i i a i of Mr Van Buren, wlieji the Florida war raging at the South an I 12 000 000 more a it cost under Mr I a i i i Ihegovernment had to bear the normuus expense ot the Mexican of IP 17 $27686805 38 3 486 36 13 43897916 51 00 LIST OF JURORS, A lor September Term and Sessions, 1852 A i a Rufti3 Smith, i Rurnsey, Scely a Nphemiah Bench James Scott.
