The board set Dec. 27 for a public hearing. The proposed budget, which would be the highest in the county's 119 year history, is 5647,837, or aboui. L7 per cent, higher than the $37346,364 appropriated for 1950.

It contains a proposed increase of $1,070,000 for hospital and charitable expenses and $1,263,000 for other purposes. Partly offsetting the increases are suggested reductions for other departments totaling $1,686,000. An addition of 255 personnel is proposed. Among the new personnel would be 16 guards for the county jail. Sherif John E.

Babb had asked for 146 additional employes, of whom 105 would have been highway patrolmen, but the patrolman request was turned down on the ground the sherif could get along sufficiently with the present force.
