THE HARTORD COURANT: Thursday, November 17, 1966 Man Follows Father in Death In Gun Mishap NEW HARTFORD (Special) -A 45-year-old Middlebury man accidentally shot himself to death early Wednesday, less than 16 hours after his father died here. The son was a farm work contractor and his 67-year-old father operated dairy farm here. The son, Howard Ethen Bardenial Middlebury, 45, of was Straits cleaning a Turnpike, .410 shotgun in the kitchen of his home shortly before 7:45 a.m. when it went off accidentally. Police said the shot struck him under the chin.

Assistant Coroner William Tobin said there was "no evidence to the contrary" to believe the shooting was other than accidental. Mr. Barden was the father of three children and worked as: a self employed custom farmer contracting farm work with heavy machinery. Father Heart Victim The father, Charles arden, 67, of Burgoyne Heights, New Hartford, died at his home about 4:15 p.m. Tuesday as the result of a heart tack.

He had operated a dairy farm in New Hartford for many years. He was born in Norfolk. He leaves, two sons, Raymond Barden and Harold Barden, both of New Hartford; a daughter, Mrs. John Pranka of Barkhamsted; a sister, Mrs. Grove B.

Leffingwell of Millerton, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews. Born in Winsted, Howard E. Barden was a veteran of World War II and served as a private in the U.S. Army Cavalary, 87th Troop. He leaves his wife, Mrs.

Mildred Veretto Barden; a son, Charles H. Barden of Middlebury; two daughters, Miss Paul Barden and Miss Linda Barden, both of Middlebury; his two brothers; his sister and several nieces and nephews. Private funeral services for the father and son will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the John J. Shea Funeral Home, Steele Road, New Hartford, with the Rev.

Chaponis, 80, of 61 Belden New Britain, died of natural causes Wednesday night shortly after admittance to Britain General Hospital. Born in Lithuania, he came to the United States 60 years ago and was a member of St. Andrew Church. New Britain, and the Lithuanian Apsevietos Society. He leaves his wife, Mrs.

Mary Bobinskis Chaponis; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Bowe of Canton; a sister in Lithuania and two granddaughters. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m. at the Venskunas Funeral Home, 665 Stanley New Britain, and at 9 in St. Andrew Church.

She was born in Hartford and lived in Enfield most of her life before moving to Windsor two months ago. She was a fourth grade student at the Clover Street School, Windsor. She leaves her parents, Allen and Mary Jane Kingsbury O'Donnell of Windsor; three brothers, Michael O'Donnell, Stephan O'Donnell and Allen O'Donnell and Miss Barbara O'Donnell, both of Windsor, and her paternal grandfather, John O'Donnell all of Windsor; two sisters, Miss Catherine O'Donnell of Houlton, Maine.

Friends may call at the funeral home today from 7 to 9 p.m. JOSEPH J. DROST Joseph J. Drost, 78, of 272 Burritt New Britain, died Wednesday morning at New Britain General Hospital. Born in Poland, he was a New Britain resident 65 years and was a retired employe of Landers, Frary Clark.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and St. Lucien's Society, PRCU, New Britain. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Mary Sroka Drost; two sons, Edward Drost of Waterbury and Alvin Drost of Beacon Falls; two daughters, Mrs. Vincent E.

IGNATIUS W. EMERLING Ignatius William Emerling, 81, of 28 Maple Meriden, father of a Hartford priest, died Wednesday at Meriden Hospital, after a short illness. He was born in Luxembourg of German parents Jan. 27, 1885, and moved to this country July 4, 1906, at the age of 21. He lived in Meriden from that date until he died.

He worked at the Cuno Engineering Corp. for 46 years, retiring in 1960. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Anna Tyczkowski Emerling; five sons, the Rev. James R.

Emerting, assistant at the Cathedral of St. Joseph, Hartford, John E. Emerling of West Haven, Raymond C. Emerling of LaCrescenta, Joseph F. Emerling of Trumbull, and Prof.

Edward G. Emerling of St. Bonaventure University; two daughters, Mrs. J. Lawrence Niland and Mrs.

H. Hulser, Distributor I MICHAEL JOY Michael Joy of 2 Hackmatack Manchester, died Wednesday at St. Francis Hospital. He was born in Killorgan, County Kerry, Ireland. He had lived in this area for the last 40 years.

He retired as a captain of the guards at Connecticut State Prison 10 years ago. From that time, until his death, he was employed at United Aircraft Research Laboratories. He was a member of the Campbell Council No. 583, KofC, and the St. James Holy Name Society of Manchester.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Margaret Kavanaugh Joy; two sons, John J. Joy and James J. Joy, both of Manchester; two daughters, Mrs. William J.

McCarthy and Mrs. Francis Murphy, both of Hartford; a sister, Mrs. Nora Regan of County Kerry, Ireland, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Thomas F.

Born in that city Sept. 15, 1942, son of John and Ann Noviasky Marinelli, he lived there all his life. In addition to his parents, he leaves two brothers, James Marinelli and Frank Marinelli: a sister, Mrs. Thomas Murphy, and three nieces and a nephew, all of Torrington. The funeral will be held Friday at 8:15 a.m.

CARRIE S. POHL Mrs. Carrie Stoetzner Pohl, 76 of 24 Duncaster Bloomfield, formerly of Manchester, died Wednesday at a Manchester convalescent home after a long illness. She was the widow of Otto E. Pohl.

Born in Rockville, she lived in Manchester most of her life until moving to Bloomfield four years ago to make her home with a daughter, Mrs. Marvin Kelley. She also leaves three sons, Harold Pohl and Ernest Pohl, both of Manchester, and Howard Pohl of Andover; a brother, Paul Stoetzner of Stafford; three sisters, Miss Maime Stoetzner, Mrs. Daisy Kreysig and Mrs. Ida Flechsig all of Rockville; grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

John Hrenuk, 46, had been given the sentence Tuesday for intoxication.

He had been arrested Monday, the same day he was released from jail. But Hrenuk was arrested again Wednesday about 9:30 less than 24 hours a.m., after he had received the jail reprieve to spend Thanksgiving with his mother. Again the charge was intoxication. Judge Angelo Santaniello had warned Hrenuk Tuesday he would be having dinner in jail if he came into court again before the holiday. "I hope he makes it," the judge said.

Hrenuk didn't. He faces court in Danielson today. Drop Flowers at Sea To Honor 19 Airmen OTIS AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. (AP) A radar picket plane dropped flowers into the Atlantic Tuesday night where 19 airmen died in the crash of a sister plane last Friday. The flowers came from relatives and friends who attended a memorial service for the fliers earlier in the day at a hangar at the base.

The plane crashed about 125 miles southeast of Cape Cod early Friday morning. Heald Dies at Age 91 In Stafford William Zorach, Sculptor, Dies BATH, Maine (UPI)William Zorach, 79, who nas widey known works throughout the United States, died Tuesday night at a hospital after ing a heart attack last month. A native of Lithuania, Zorach was best known for his works at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and at the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum in New York. He was admitted to the hospital Oct. 28 after a heart attack.

Zorach has been living at his Maine Robinhood Farm in Georgetown, during the winters since 1921. Roger G. Pike Dies at Age 77; Former Engineer MIDDLETOWN (Special) Roger G.

Pike 77, of 2 Park Terrace, Hartford, engineer with the State Highway Dept. for many years and construction superintendent for the Baldwin Bridge, died in McCook tal, Hartford, Wednesday. He was a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., son of Robert G. and Ella Johnstone Pike and formerly lived in Middletown and in Ivoryton. He was educated in Middletown schools and was a graduate of the University of Connecticut.

Mr. Pike was a member of the Society of Professional Engineers. He leaves two sons, Robert G. Pike Jr. and Charles B.

Pike, both of Ivoryton; two sisters, Miss Elsie Pike and Mrs. George Holbrook, both of Wethersfield, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. The funeral will be held at the Doolittle Funeral Home, 14 Church Friday at 10:30 a.m. The Rev. George H.

Sinclair minister of the First Baptist Church here, will officiate. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Friends who prefer may make contributions to the American Cancer Society. Rites Set for Slain Officer Today NEW LONDON (Special) Funeral services will be held this morning in Virginia for Navy Lt.

Cmdr. John B. Foster, who Sunday morning was fatally shot in his home here. His widow, Antoinette Magaraci Foster, 35, has been charged with the slaying and is held without bond in State Jail pending a coroner's inquest and a scheduled Circuit Court appearance Nov. 28.

The body of the 39-year-old Foster was sent to Washington, D.C., by train early Wednesday morning, said John, MacDougall of Byles Memorial Home here. He took this action on request of the Navy, he added. The body was reposing Wednesday night at the Joseph Gawler Sons Funeral Home in Washington. A spokesman there said the funeral will be at 8:45 at Fort Meyer Chapel in Virginia, with burial following at Arlington National Cemetery. He said Foster leaves his mother, Mrs.

Hilda B. Foster of Washington, and two brothers, George H. Foster, also of Washington, and Dr. Richard S. Foster, an Army major.

He also leaves three young sons, John B. Foster Mark V. Foster and Richard A. Foster, all of New London. The funeral home spokesman, said that his widow is also listed as a survivor.

OSCAR E. MASON Oscar E. Mason, of 395 Porter Lake Springfieid, Mass. died Wednesday in Springfield Hospital. He was born in Chicopee Falls, Mass.

and had lived in the Springfield area for the last several years. He was formerly a leading tool engineer at Pratt Whitney Aircraft East Hartford. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Veronica Ruddy Mason, a son, Robert Mason of Middlefield; a daughter, Mrs. Lorraine Caulfield of Southington; a brother, Louis Mason of Meriden; a sister, Mrs.

Mabel Greco of Suffield, and three grandchildren. Funeral services wili be Friday at 8 a.m. at the Curran Jones Funeral Home, Springfield, followed by a Requiem High Mass in Holy Name Church, Springfield, at 9. Burial will be in Pennsylvania. MRS BERTHA L. ELLIOTT Mrs. Bertha Lindtveit Elliott, 61, widow of Robert G. Elliott, of 122 Maplewood West Hartford, died Wednesday at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, Brattleboro, Vt. She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., and lived in West Hartford and Marlboro, Vt.

most of her life. She leaves her mother, Mrs. G. G. Lindtveit of St.

James, N.Y.; two sons, Robert G. Elliott Jr. of Marlboro and Donald Elliott of West Dummerston, a daughter, Mrs. Berte Evans of Southington; four brothers, Gustav Lindtveit of Houston, George Lindtveit, Theodore Lindtveit and Herbert Lindtveit, all of Long Island, N.Y., a sister, Mrs. Margaret Engblom, also of Long Island, and 11 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the Marlboro Congregational Church, Friday at 12 noon. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Asylum Hill Congregational Church. JAMES LAMO James Lamo, 76, of 65 Redding died Wednesday at a local hospital. He was born in San Fretola, Province of Messina, Italy, and had lived in Hartford for the last 53 years.

He was a retired employe of the Arrow, Hart and Hegeman of Hartford, where he worked as a machinist. He was with the company for 25 years. He was a member of the International Electrical Workers Union. He was a communicant of St. Augustine's Church.

He leaves his wife, Mrs. Lena LoBolbo Lamo; four sons, Benedict Lamo, Salvatore Lamo, Albert Lamo, all Hartford, and Vincent Lamo of Tolland; three daughters, Miss Ann Lamo of Hartford, Mrs. Mary Lewis of Madison and Mrs. Caroline Russo of Hartford, and nine grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 a.m.

at the GiulianoSagarino Funeral Home, 247 Washington with a Solemn Requiem Mass in St. Augustine's Church at 9. Place of burial will be in announced at a later time. MISS LILYAN H. ASHEIM Miss Lilyan Helen Asheim, 82, formerly of Hartford, died Wednesday at the Ancora State Hospital, Hammonton, N.J. She was born in New Britain, and had lived in Hartford for 30 years before moving to the Atlantic City, N.J., area 12 years ago. She leaves a brother, Edward A. Asheim of Hempstead, L.I., N.Y.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 11:30 a.m. at the Beth Israel Cemetery, at the corner of Ward and Afleck streets, with Rabbi Abraham J. Feldman officiating. The Weinstein Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. HOWARD A.

SELDEN Howard A. Selden, 70, of Knowles Road, Middle Haddam, former East Hampton tax collector for 24 years, died Wednesday at Cobalt Lodge after a long iliness. He was a member of the advisory board of the Connecticut Bank and Trust Co. a member of Anchor Lodge, and Bell Lodge 54, 100F. and formerly owned and operated Selden's Hardware Store for 40 years until his retirement in 1956.

He leaves his wife, Hazel Anderson Selden; two daughters, Mrs. Richard Grant of Hebron and Mrs. Ronald Christopher of East. Hampton; a brother, John Selden of Springfield, a nephew, Franklin Selden of Springfield, and eight grandchildren. Services will be held Friday at the Spencer Funeral Home, 112 Main East Hampton.

The Rev. Robert A. Sargent, minister of the East Hampton Congregational Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery, Middle Haddam. Friends may call at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9.

STAFFORD SPRINGS (Special) Miss Bertha Heald, 91, of 112 East Main died Tuesday night at Johnson Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Miss Heald lived in the same house, one of the landmarks of Stafford, where her late father William D. Heald was born. She is descended from one of the early English emigrants, William D.

Heald of Berwick, England, who came to this country in 1635 on the ship "Tweed." She was born in Stafford Springs, Aug. 30, 1875, daughter of the late William D. and Eliza Howard Heald. Educated in the Stafford schools, she graduated from Stafford High School. She was the oldest member in age and service of the Stafford Springs Congregational Church with 70 years of membership.

She was a sister of the late Judge William Howard Heald who served for nearly 50 years as judge of the former Borough Court. She was also at one time assistant librarian at the Stafford Public Library. She leaves several cousins. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at the Introvigne Plante Funeral Home with the Rev.

Robert A. Heavilin, pastor of the Stafford Springs Congregational Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev. William T. Thistle of East Douglas, Mass. former pastor.
