Eileen O'Neill Hailed as World's Comeliest 'Cop' a long time. When she isn't going around scarring reporters, she plays Sergeant Ames on "Burke's Law." Actually, it's a lucky thing there aren't many policewomen around who look like Eileen or our crime rate might leap to new heights. If it weren't for the fact that so many of the guest stars are pulchritudinous ladies, I'd almost suspect Miss O'Neill of being the lure used to entice so many names into appearing on "Burke's Law." "It's such a far out show," she said, "stars love to do it. In fact, a lot X)f them come back in different roles. They don't get many chances elsewhere to play the kind of parts they get with us." That remark would seem to indicate that Eileen is now firmly a part of the "Burke's Law" family, to use television jargon.

She was a late starter during the just completed first season and appeared in 20 episodes. Her role began as little more than a throwaway but it grew as the season progressed. "We were feeling around with if CUTE COP: This is Eileen O'Neill, television's idea of what a law enforcement officer should look like. She plays Sergeant Ames on the ABC-TV "Burke's Law" series. what to do with the role," she said.

"We didn't know how it should be interpreted or if it would catch on at all. But ii seems to have been accepted within the context of the series and I expect to be in about 25 of next season's show. I've already seen some of next season's scripts, and I'll have some good opportunities to act." In addition to her regular appearances on "Burke's Law," Eileen will be seen in the film "Kiss Me, Stupid" (the one in which Ray Walston replaced the ailing Peter Sellers) and an episode of "The Rogues." She also did a guest spot in an as-yet-unsold pilot for a series called "A Man Named Mc-Ghee." Started la Commercials who is a Philadelph-ian, went directly to Hollywood from her home town less than three years ago, not even bothering to stop over in New York. She plunged almost immediately into modeling and luckily avoided the pitfalls of being an unemployed pretty girl in one of the most brutal flesh jungles in the world. "I got right into television commercials," she said.

"In my first I was 19 and I played a 28-year-old woman who managed to achieve an amazingly youthful appearance. On most of my early commercials, I played the heavy, the complainer. You have to be an actor or actress to do commercials; just being a model isn't enough. The whole picture has changed. It's no longer an identifying stigma to' be on a commercial.

It's a credit for an actress, not a restriction, on her acting career." She admits to having a fetish i 1 I "Sometimes I have nightmares about it," she said, "or rather about the one episode I don't ever want to participate in. I just hope some writer doesn't ever turn in a good script called 'Who Killed Sergeant Ames?"
