I am a life long resident here, and have always voted the National 1-te- publlcan ticket but sometimes cut our local ticket, to vote for the man best fitted for the office. 1 think all men should have that right. Last Saturday I went to the polls to vote, as 1 always have done, lie- fore going I heard I was to be challenged as my name was on a list made up ly out J'ostnnisler. So when I asked for a Republican ballot I was challenged on party lints, by our County Treasurer, who lives in thin wajri. I told the my standing in regards to being a Republican.

I was lefuued a ballot unless I wuuld swear or affirm that had voted for of the candidates on th. "ileol 1 i 1 would not do. There wtre about twelve others of this ward, all good citizens and property owners, Hie myself, challenged, too. Some vHja, but the majority did not. I back to the polls in the evening and very soon came in and asked for a Republican ballot, who had saloon in the Urst ward, but who had moved from the ward about the first of April.

was handed a Republican ballot liny question and voted it. After be had voted I usked him rfhere he lived, he told me in the presence of our County Treasuier and Election officers that he resided in the Thiid ward. Before leaving the polls I was told by our Postmaster that I could now vote if I wanted to. I told him there were not enough men in the loom to make me vote. I think It very hard when a property owner, councilman and Republican cannot vote his party's ticket.

Italians and colored people are given the right to vote for delegates who will nominate a President. I have voted the Republican tioket for forty years and I think it a petty small law that permits an interpretation that disfranchises me. and I think it Is time for the American people to wake up and make laws to give them the right to vote direct for President and i die before I will go to the poor house." This was the sentiment expressed James King, an old character who ived with his wife on Otter street, and he made good his threat by committing suicide last Friday evening. King and his i lived In two rooms on Otter street, and it had been arranged to take the feeble husband to county home on Monday. He protested and declared he would never "Jemmle," as he waa fuinlllarl; alleO, was a native of the North of Ireland, and formerly made good wages as a carpet weaver.

He was 63 years old, and of late had been in feeble health and had no means of support. Wliile his wife was absent from their little home on Friday afternoon "Jeiumie" obtained a can of Rough on Rats and fed the poison to himself i a spoon. When the i returned ehe round her husband lying across the bed, not vet unconscious. He told her what he had done. Dr.

Collins was suni- Jininiie told the physician that he bad taken rut poison because he was tired of life and did not want to go to tbe poorhouse. The doctor did all he could but at 7.45 p. ra, the old man passed away. Deputy Coroner Rue viewed the remains and from the evidence was satisfied that it was a plain case of suicide. The funeral was held on Monday interment being made at the Bristol cemetery.

Besides his i the deceased leaves a married daughter. "The DewT is Coming. Franz Molnar's epoch waking play which comes to the Riverside Theatre, Bristol, Saturday evening, April 20th, tells a most absorbing story and yet it ia a story of every day life. Some Bristol people thought this a crude assertion, but last Saturday's delegate election proved Grundy's politics to be all that Glbboney claimed. The postmaster with his henchmen swarmed the First waid polling place, and men with protective liquor licenses assisted in the challenging.

William K. Fine, of the First ward, and John J. K-ilcoyne, of the Third ward, took their orders from the Bosses and challenged Bristol's best citizens, Grundy himself taking lart, thus stopping ovei 100 votes In Bristol. Not only those that were challenged for not voting a straight gang ticket at last election were but by the spreading of tbe news, many feared the humiliation of the gang's nefarious measures and stayed away, from the polls.
