A loot ot thx Early Aviation Days Relived in Ch. 3 Program Dick Bertel's television program, "Perception," will today provide a nostalgic reunion of three key figures in the success story of the world famous Gee Bee racing planes the fastest landplanes in the world in bhe early 1930s. Through the coopera- tion of the Connecticut Aeronautical Historical Association, WTIC Channel 3 is presenting "The Gee Bee Story" at 1:00 p.m. Reminiscing on the program about the Golden Age of air racing, and the part they played in it, will be Springfield's aviatrix Tait Moriarty, Gee Bee designer Howell W. Miller, and Gee Bee builder Edward H.

Granville. In addition, rare still photographs and movies from the Aeronautical Association's archives will be used to relate the rise and fall of the Granville Brothers Aircraft Company of Springfield. designers and builders of the Gee Bees. Granville, Miller, and Alderson Magee, the program's writer and research consultant, are all presently employed by United Aircraft. According to Harvey Lippincott, president of the Connecticut Aeronautical Historical Association, this week's production is of great interest due to the important role that the avaia-tion industry has played in this area and the significant contributions which have been made by local citizens over the years.

FAMOUS RACING PLANE: This Is the "Gee Bee," fastest land plane in existence back in the 1930s. The colorful storv of aviation in those pioneering days will be told in "The Gec Bee Story," on "Perception," today at 1:00 p.m. on Channel 3. hysterical ear-busting a hot trumpet might connote. Goldie, former side-man of Jack Teagardens, plays tasty, muted jazz for the most part throughout the tracks.

Leo Wright, former Gillespie sideman, blows with soul, especially on flute. "Nightingale" gets exciting progressive jazz treatment. Goldie's tone is rich and full on this without forfeiting originality. Other tunes: "I Hear a Rhapsody" and "There Will Never Be Another You," are outstanding. MOMS MABLEY YOUNG MEN SI OLD MEN NO: Chess Records.

Husky-voiced Loretta Mary Aiken more popularly known as the Negress comedienne "Moms Mabley," comes on strong with some oldies but goodies. The jokes are funny and acceptable for mixed company. Performance recorded live at the Apollo Theater, New York. Some good integration jokes. AL GREY NIGHT SONG: With Billy Mitchell; Argo Jazz Series.

Al Grey, trombonist, puts together a sextet, featuring tenor man Billy Mitchell: trumpeter Dave Burns and Bobby Hutcher-son, vibes. A selection of pretty melodies, together with some of the prettiest jazz ideas in many a moon, are played in danceable tempi. An example of this is "Laughing Tonight." On this. Billy Mitchell blows like Parker throughout. "Stella" resolves into a lightly driving temno.

A good showcase technique to good advantage. A moody "Angel Eyes." "Margie" begins on a purposefully discordant note and continues this way throughout. The album gets into high gear with excellent renditions of "Date with an Angel" and "Rosetta." Good easy listening jazz. E. C.

K. Flocks of 'Truth Tellers' More than 1,200 contestants (400 central characters, 800 "side have appeared on the daytime version of "To Tell the Truth" (Monday through Friday. p.m.) on the CBS Television Network since it started June 18, 1962. The figures were compiled by producer Willie Stein, who points out that the five-a-week series uses six contestants a day, 30 a week. Nancy Malone of "The Guiding Light" on CBS Television Network became an actress after a successful career as a Powers child model.

JOHNNY CRAWFORD: HIS GREATEST HITS! Del-Fi Record. This 16 -year-old is the idol of many young girls, including my daughter. The liner notes indicate that Crawford began his rise to stardom 18 months ago. He is the son on the "Rifleman" TV series. Generally, Crawford's voice lacks depth and richness, as is evidenced in a weak rendition of River." However, he has the potential to develop qualities of richness and maturity, if correctly trained and managed.

THE BALLAD OF NEW ORLEANS: The Fantastic Strings of Felix Slatkin; Liberty Premier Series. A concert-like treatment of some good Dixie stuff. Fiddles are prevalent, but every now and then a soulful clarinet, or bright trumpet comes to the fore. Good arrangements by Amerigo Marino. The listener is given a complete profile of the various m-wds created by the big-city life and fertile musical background of New Orleans.

Selections heard are: "South Rampart." "Basin Street. "St. James Infirmary," "Saints" many others. Liberty Premier series Poly 120 Sound is scintillating. Very little distortion here, and believe me, I put.

it through every test I could came in loud and clear and in monoraul, yet! DON GOLDIE TRUMPET CAL- IENTE: Argo Records. "Hot" trumpet is the translation of the title of the album. Although there is none of the TV Thursday Rerun movies rated by independent sources Excellent sksx, Good (xxx). Fair (xx. Poor (x).

The Johnny Mann singers and Ernie Freeman orchestra do the honors. BILL LESLIE DIGGIV THE CHICKS; Argo Jazz.
