The games Wethersfield. Windsor Locks New York, May 29. (AP.) Alex Kellner and Eddie Joost combined today to pace the Philadelphia Athletics to a 3-1 victory over the Yankees snapping the New Yorkers six-game winning streak. Kellner limited the league-leaders to six hits while Joost poled out a two-run homer In the fifth inning.

By salvaging the finale of a three-game series, the A's regained second place from the Boston Red 3ox, who bowed to the Washington Nats. The A's broke a scoreless tie In the fifth when they touched Bob Porterfield for all their runs. Buddy Rosar opened the winning drive with the first of his three straight singles. Pete Suder's sacrifice put Rosar on second, and the ex-Yankee catcher dashed home on Kellners first hit of the year, a pop fly single to left. Joost then hit his ninth homer into the left field seats.

So terrific was the pace that five cars which previously had qualified were bumped out by faster ones. Rose's record breaking speed in the 1948 race was 119.814 miles an hour. Rose, at 43.

is the oldest driver in the race. The youngest is Troy Ruttman, 22, of Ontario. Calif. Tall and raw boned with a shodk of blond curly hair, Ruttman never drove in a big car race until last April. That was at Arlington Downs, Dallas, Texas, in the AAA 100-mile championship race.

Ruttman was leading at 50 miles when a broken front spindle forced him to quit after driving sensationally. Ruttman began running roadsters in 1946 and won the first race he entered at San Bernardino, Calif. A year later he won the 1947 Pacific Coast roadster- championship and repeated in 1948. He also won the United Racing Association midget championships the same year. Troy's three younger brothers can't make it for tomorrow's race, hut his father and mother will be in the stands.

His father. Ralph Ruttman, is in the brake business and tries to follow his son as much as he can. Ruttman, driving a Carter special owned by Ray Carter, quail, fled at a speed of 128.132.
