The yacht sailed from New London for New York this morning. It drifted for several hours after the explosion before attracting the attention of passing craft.

Immediately upon receiving a report of the explosion, Coast Guard headquarters in New London dispatched two cuttfrs to th "gpi7-arac." Bing Crosby tells me "I give my boys a spanking and scolding every two weeks. That's the only way I can keep up with my child training." George Raft, clad in a dressing gown on the 'Spawn of the North" set, was exceedingly peeved. "Why did you call me so early?" he grumbled to Director Henry Hathaway.

"Just to get you used to the water," said Henry, and pushed the star into the miniature lake. He was surprised when George roared with laughter but soon teftrned why. "Your watch is in the pocket of my dressing gown," giggled Mr. Raft. Gene Raymond looks after the house while wife Jeanette MacDon-ald is working in Gene's special chore is the garaen, which is now a riot of color and very beautiful.

In between seed planting, Gene is hoping for the lead in "Golden Boy." Columbia, however, has not yet abandoned hope of finding an unknown for the role. To date, over 1000 young men have been interviewed, with only two showing glimmerings of acting ability. The search, one of the few authentic things of it's kind, closes this week. (At least, that's what i TOiar.oatiy nana was asKea to do the can-can in "Zaza." but re fused. "The bubble and fan dance is art," says Sally, "the can-can is low sex appeal." But lady-like Claudette Colbert dances it in the picture. Claudette would dance a hundred can-cans if she could wear a different coiffure. "I have to get up an hour earlier to fix my hair. I sympathize now with Queen Mary," grumbles Miss Colbert.

Gary Cooper makes violent love to Merle Oberon in "The Lady and the Cowboy," but between "takes" they gaze at each other without saying a word.

Basil Rathbone-is a very conscientious worker, and. when he was told to deve'op a hollow laugh for his King Lou's XI of France role in "I I Were King." he practiced at every opportunity. Recently, after a particularly sinister guffaw, he was stopped by a suspicious policeman. "It's all richt." Basil assured him. "I'm Basil Rathbone." Gordon Peters as Danny could so easily have ruined effects by interpolations of maniacal gestures, Martha Skeen could just as easily have slipped into audience-contempt in scenes where she betrayed her love for the murderer, and Peggy Blake could have made the cook burlesque rather than relief.
