BY LARRY WOLTERS. -A double barreled announcement on television was made by the Columbia network over the week end. The chain is establishing a complete television unit in the Grand Central Terminal building in New York to operate in conjunction with its newly established television transmitter in the Chrysler building; George Seldes has been weaned away from his dramatic and journalistic endeavors to direct these experimental broadcasts, starting Sept.

1. 'Construction of studios in the Grand Central station is to begin in early fall. The central studio, 225 feet in length, 60 feet in width, and 40 feet from floor to ceiling, is to be located directly above the Grand Central waiting room. It will contain dressing rooms, rehersal rooms, carpentry shop, and a laboratory. Provision also has been made for the cutting, editing, and scanning of motion picture films.

The project is designed to promote the first full-scale working model in this country of a complete television unit operating under typical conditions of actual daily production. The mode of operation outlined by Seldes is to make as many experiments as possible in order to make as many errors as possible in advance as a means of establishing television on the same standard entertainment value as other mature arts. NBC is continuing its television tests through studios in the RCA building: and transmitter top the Empire State building. The CHICAGO DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME.l ON SHORT WAVES. LONDON 7:30 p.
