Edward Nevers, 1114 148th street, East Chicago, was critically injured last evening when an airplane he was flying crashed into the ground from a height of 1,200 feet. The ship landed in a field at 167th street and Kedzie avenue and was demolished. Nevers, who is 31 years old, was taken to the Ingalls Memorial hospital in Harvey. He had left Dixie airport at 163d street and Western avenue a short time before in the ship, a CurtisS Junior with a 45 horse power Szek-ley engine. Several persons on the field said he was practicing vertical turns in the little pusher monoplane when he stalled the machine and it went into a spin.

Nevers had only 25 hours of flying time. He owned the plane in partnership with Harold Brown, who also lives in East Indianapolis, May 26. Congressman Samuel B. Paley amateur radio award, paddled a boat through icy waters at great danger to his life to send a radio message warning that Shawneetown residents were gravely imperiled as the 1937 Ohio valley floods swept over the town. Through his efforts a rescue vessel was summoned and transported 1,500 refugees out of the Shawneetown district. The award will be presented to Anderson by the ROME 7:30 p. m.

Guest has fed in the Hollywood pastures returns to the broadcasting fold. Such is Cliff Soubier, whom you used to hear on First Nighter. The veteran character actor appeared in several films, but he has returned to Chicago and is regularly featured on the National Barn Dance and the Uncle Ezra series, as well as occasionally on several other dramatic shows. Mystery control was demonstrated for the first time publicly last evening at the national convention of Philco Radio and Television corporation in the Edgewater Beach hoteL This device enables the listener to select any one of eight stations, to change to any other, to adjust the volume, or to turn off the set from any point within a hundred feet of the receiver without use of any connecting cables, wires, or the home and the coast to coast network of the Mutual Broadcasting system at 9:30 p.m., when Curtain Time is to be presented before 600 guests in W-G-N's audience studio. The story, written by Frank Russell and produced by Blair Walliser, will feature an all-star cast headed by Alice Hill, Ed Prentiss, ration vetoed his renomination although he is a former Democratic State chairman.

In short, it is control of the radio through radio itself. As demonstrated, the living room receiver is tuned or retuned by flicks of a dial somewhat similar to that employed on a telephone. The control unit is housed in a portable compact case weighing a couple of pounds. Philco declines to disclose the secret of operation. It was explained that each control is adapted specifically for one receiver and that no interference from a neighbor who might have a similar instrument is possible.

Anna Nehf Levy. Mrs. Anna Nehf Levy, a resident of Chicago for fifty-five years, died yesterday in her home at 2333 Monroe street. She had been ill several years. Mrs.

Levy was 72 years old. She was born in Port Washington, Wis. She is survived by her husband, Max Levy, a brother of Charles Levy, head of the Charles Levy Circulating company. Max Levy is connected with that company. A brother, William Nehf, also survives.
