30 (T). Siel-hen Marius Balzer, 78, pioneer automobile manufacturer whose first car is now in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, died yesterday after a long illness. In 1894 Balzer completed his first automobile. On a trial run in Manhattan a policeman stopped hlm and insisted that a man with a red flag walk in front of the contraption. The vehicle could not do more than four miles an hour.

Balzer also claimed he built the motor in the flying machine of Prof. S. B. Langley which sank in the Potomac river in 1898 on its first trial. He later manufactured surgical instruments.

Some of the grass and weeds that the ewes ate had come up after the corn was cultivated the last but part of them, especially quack grass, had been there since the corn was planted. The field was broken out of sod last spring and quack grass got a start during tainy weather while the ground was too wet to cultivate the young corn. The corn was drilled and could not be cross-cultivated. Part of the quack grass was left in the rows. Fattening of Lambs.

Fattening lambs in cornfields is a fairly common practice on corn belt farms. When this is done the lambs are left in the corn until they eat not only the grass, weeds, and corn blades, but the ears also. Cornfields that are to be harvested by lambs usually have soy beans or some other legume planted with the corn or sown later between the rows to provide additional protein fee dfor the lambs. A cornfield alone furnishes poor feed for lambs because of the lack of protein. Farmers find two difficulties in fattening lambs in cornfields.

The lambs are more subject to digestive troubles than where they are fed in dry lots and they seldom clean up all the grain. Hogs usually are put in the fields after the lambs are taken out to eat the corn the lambs have missed. EDNVAI1D J. DONNELLAN- Chanel fit th Chim Pa." AIR CONT)111NFP SEFFERY-BLVD. AT 77TH-ST.
