THE SAUNA JOURNAL NATION MONDAY, MAY 19, 1997 A7 TPETS CoH dog Dog revives during 18 hours in freezer after being struck by a car By The Associated Press LODI, Calif. — After Prince got hit by a car on Mother's Day, his owners brought the pooch into their yard and petted him, trying to revive him. He didn't wake up, so they brought him to the animal shelter. "Ivly kids were just sick about it;".'owner Ruben Mojica said. But when pound master Earl Monroe opened the freezer Monday, Prince looked up listlessly and started walking around. Prince had spent 18 hours inside. "Considering all he'd been through, he was in pretty fair shape," said Dr. Penny Hodge, who treated Prince for an ear infection and freezer burn. The sad-eyed poodle mix ap- peafced to be dead, but was really in alcoma. His thick, matted hair provided insulation that helped Prince survive, Hodge said. Mojica said the family didn't think Prince was breathing after the accident. "We brought him to our yard and petted him and thought maybe he would come back, but he didn't," Mojica said. Monroe said he hadn't seen anything like it in his 29 years on the job.; Pound officials nicknamed Prince, "Frosty the Freezer Dog." VSfrCOMSASART Floor plans Exhibit showcases mock-ups of TV families' homes The Associated Press Shelter volunteer Gretchen Nelson holds Prince, who was struck by a car then placed in a freezer because he was thought to be dead. By NANCY BENAC Thej\ssociated Press WASHINGTON — Serious art has now come to this: A museum display of.floor plans for the hbmes of perfect TV families like Rob and Laura Petrie and Darrin andSamantha Stevens. 'No dry architectural renderings these. The new exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art showcases the exact placements of Mr. Ed's stable, Be'ayer Cleaver's bookcase, and Gilligan's hammock. The identical cousins on "The Patty Duke Show" have extra outlets in their bedfoom for hair dryers. ! tor this, we have to thank Los An- g&ieS" artist Mark Bennett, the ultimate product of the TV generation. Envious of the happy families tha't lived in TV land, Bennett started taking detailed notes on their homes when he was a child, and was soon turning his research into renderings. He did it the hard way, long before VCRs and "Nick at Nite." ' "I did this from memory," he explained at Friday's press preview. "One blueprint takes eight hours — and 20 years of research." That meant cutting class to catch reruns in junior high, running red lights to get home in time V INTERNET The Associated Press Mark Bennett, who grew up In a middle-class home In Chattanooga, Tenn., poses with a piece of his artwork Friday in Washington. for an "I Love Lucy" episode, watching for changes from one season to the next. Bennett, 40, grew up the middle child in a middle-class home in Chattanooga, Tenn. But his parents never quite measured up to the Cleavers and the Cunninghams and the Clampetts. "I sort of escaped into the drawings," he said. "These are my own personal love letters to the shows." His exhibit includes collages focused on Barbara Billings- ley, aka Mrs. Cleaver. At some point, his drawings also became art — selling for $3,000$4,000 apiece. Terrie Sultan, curator of contemporary art at the Corcoran, said the drawings are serious works because they explore issues of fantasy, reality, collective memory and the influence of the media. "They're also enjoyable to look at," she said. "They pull you in, and yet the content makes you think, and that's what art is." Woman fined for posing as man to win bride By The Associated Press WASHINGTON — A judge has awarded $264,000 to a woman who met, what she thought was the man of her dreams on the Internet, but four months after marriage discovered he was a she. Margaret Hunter, a 24-year-old administrative assistant from Alexandria, Va., will get $250,000 in damages and $14,000 to cover what she spent on the couple's relationship — including $9,500 for their wedding before 70 unsuspecting guests last April at a fancy hotel. The ruling came this week from Circuit Court Judge Alfred Swersky in Alexandria, Va. Hunter met Holly Anne Groves, 26, of Bryan, Texas, in the fall of 1995 on the Internet. Groves called herself Thorne Wesley Jameson Groves, and told Hunter she was a jet-set businessman dying of AIDS — a circumstance which kept "him" from being intimate. Groves also bound her chest with bandages, saying she had rib injuries from a car accident. Hunter grew suspicious when Groves did not seem to be getting sicker or receiving any medical bills. When Groves' parents called and asked for "Holly," Hunter went looking for Groves' birth certificate and learned she was a woman. Hunter said she hopes the fine will "send a real strong message" to Groves and others who misuse the Internet. - Visit Our Web Site at Residential Roofing Specialists #1 in Ulysses Storm '94, Garden City Storm '95 and Lamed/ Ness Clty/Dighton Storm '96 for Quality, Service & Customer Satisfaction!
