M 8 July 8, 1948 Maion City Glebe-Gaiette, M»son City, la. REUNION HELD Iowa Falls—About 100 members of the Hamilton and Stockdale families held their annual reunion at Edgewood in Iowa Falls Sunday. Those attending were from Hampton, Bradford, Swaledale, Marion, Des Moines, Boone, Aplington, Wellsburg, Alden, Waterloo and Iowa Falls. Robert Hamilton of Iowa Falls was named chairman of the group and Mrs. Blanche Collis of Boone, secretary-treasurer. One hundred years ago the first iron made from Lake Superior ore was tapped at the Carp River Forge in Michigan. While this forge "made little iron and no money," Lake Superior ores now supply about 82 per cent of United States' needs. The model airplane contest, sponsored by the Air Scouts, as a feature of "Aviation Days" at the Mason City Muncipal airport this weekend, will be held Sunday, with flying from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in conjunction with the regular Ray Henry Air show. Speeds of more than 100 miles per hour will be attained by these model planes, according to John Dagle, who is in charge of the contest. In the stunt events, there will be loops, wing overs, vertical climbs and dives and many more stunts. The contest is open to anyone with a medel plane living within a radius of 60 miles around Mason City. It will be staked between the Administration building and Air Activities quarters. 5250 in Prizes The prize list totals more than $250 and includes jet engine, McCoy, Ohlsson & Rice and other engines, Burgess Vibro Sprayer, Dremel Moto Tool and various model kits and accessories. An Air Force Air Show and field display of military aircraft has been scheduled for Saturday afternoon. Mil iu Floor At Baron's ROY TIMIVI planes will be on the field ,1'rom 11 to 12 a.m. From 1 to 2 p.m. there will be marching bands and a band concert. And midget auto races will be featured from 2 to 3 p.m. Ray Henry's Air Show will be featured between 3 and 4, p.m. Outstanding in this show will be Henry's Stearman, a former navy trainer, which has been converted for acrobatics. Among other changes made, the horsepower was more than doubled. The engine is now 450 horsepower and is equipped for inverted flying. A smoke system has been added for smoke ejection. Will Ride Wing Roy Timm, parachute jumper, will ride the wing of the Stearman in its exhibition here with the Ray Henry Air Show. Howard Libersky of Mason City also will fly his 3 motored plane, smallest plane of this type in the world. Another feature of the show will be the old 1930 model Curtiss pusher. This was originally a 35 horsepower job, but it has been stepped up to 50 horsepower. It will be flown by Robert Sattre of Decorah. A stock Fail-child will be flown by Ernie Sielaff, fixed base operator at Iowa Falls, in a scries of low level acrobatics. To Try Jump The Helicopter parachute jump will be the first known attempt at this stunt and should prove sensational, for the jumper must clear the down draft of the machine before he can open his chute. Mark Markson, editor of "Wings," will be master of ceremonies on Saturday and Sherm Booen.
