Then it warned: "Germany's patience is now at an end and the French will now have to feel the war which they have sought to bring upon Germany.

France will have to feel the punishment until she has lost all desire for further assaults on Germany." California Showing Walt Disney Film "Pinocchio," Walt Disney's successor to the sensational "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs," is showing at the California theater. A jury of nine men and three women last night returned a $12,500 verdict for Melvin Watson, San Fernando High School mathematics teacher, against John T. Culbertson, i rancher, whom he accused of stealing the love of Mrs.

Jeanne Watson. This sum is 25 per cent of the $50,000 Watson sued for. Watson charged Culbertson caused his wife, a voice and piano teacher, to leave him a year ago. Oil and By ART MASON GREILEY EXTENDED A 3AIN it ooks like the "Superior Oil touc" which changes things to black gld has functioned this time in theUerrlll No. 1 outpost in northwest 'reeley, almost in the of lo Bravo derricks.

Oil sand has ben cored and casing has been set at 1,299 feet, which is said to bo high. Today the rest of the prospective Vlder oil sand is being explored. (Sction 1, 29-25) STRATI) FLOWS RIG That the cniparatively thin sand of the small Strand field has lots of power, wa again demonstrated yesterday, wen Shell Oil's 80-12 gradually cloned up to a flow of 2BOO barrels ally. Of Interest to 1ho practjcal nan Is that this Is a "slim-hole" jo with small size casing for a walr-string. Figures: Tail depth.

8-199 feet; casinfcemented on the Stevens sand feet; leaving 34 tfect open; flq'ed 25CO net barrels with acut of 4.3 per cent may Icar up altogether; 1,700,000 cubic feet of gas; gravity of the oil, 33.4. (Section 12, 30-25) GOOD TOP SAND When Franco-Western Oil Company stopped at a top sand it got a good CO-barrel pumper in No. 19 at only 960 feet in the so-called Franco- Western pool north of McKittrlck. This suggests that If the company had gone other way, below the known 2000-foot sand, still a third sand might be uncovered. It Is surprising that no real deep tests have been sunk in the old Mc- Kittrlck region that abounds in oil structure, oil seeps and oil showings.

(Section 8, 30-22) E. COALINGA IMPROVES About cleared up is the puzzling situation in the old East Coalinga field where one well was pumping water nnd the next was flowing oil. This is in an old undrilled spot which showed a surprising amount of life by yielding a gusher at Tide Water Assoclated's recent Guardian No. 22. Shell Oil Company's offset, 45-2, has exhausted the water after several days pumping.

But the well is not yet on steady production because of sanding-up. Tide Water's "gold mine" is flowing steadily like clockwork. Beanocl down to a tiny opening the size of a match It put out 167 barrels in the 24 hours ending this morning at midnight. KINGSBL'RG WILDCAT Progressing slowly is the Erickson Swanson No. 2 wildcat near Kingsburg on the way 1 to Fresno.

Spudded about three months ago the last reported depth Is 915 feet. (Section 22, 16-22) SATURDAY'S BARBECUE Next Saturday's all-day party of the San Joaquln valley oil men at Stockdale Country Club Is expected to be bigger than ever. It is reported that the program will be aim- illar to previous years and include a golf tournament during the day and a barbecue dinner and entertainment out-of-doors In the evening. 48 Notices to Drill Filed With Division Oil field operations reported by the Division of Oil and Gas, during the week ending May 25, included the filing of 17 notices to drill new wells, as compared with filed during the preceding week. This makes a total of 481 new wells this year, as compared with 406 at the corresponding time last year, the division reports. New wells in the valley included: Richfield Oil Corporation, K. C.

L. No. 61-33, Coles Levee; Republic Petroleum Company, C. No. 1, Midway.

Trlco Oil and Gas Company, Newland, No. 3, Trico Gas: General Petroleum Corporation, Caldwell, No. 5, Rio Bravo: Shell Oil Company, KCL-A, No. S7-29, Ten Section; Shell Oil Company, KCL-A, No. 8-20, Ten Section; Shell Oil Company, KCL-A.

"Barbizon has met the demand by styling a slip for every costume, as well as a size and style for every figure type. Slips like Glidewell or Dance Maid are designed to give evening gowns the proper foundation. Pirouette is a full swing-skirted slip with a slim bodice zipped up the side. Catnilee is an excellent camisole slip for under sheer blouses. Ritemore is the nurse's favorite, and Materni- tle for expectant mothers is a beautiful slip that can be let out an Inch at a time," Miss Barbizon said.

Baby Quintanilla steals the The simplicity, humility and humor Picture and will probably be retiring of the Great Emancipator seem not the screen with a fortune by to be synthetically produced by the i thtf time he is ready to cut his first actor, for he has given tho role that 'ooth.

Nydia Westman will be re- intangible quality of greatness, membered as the old-maid school Some of the compelling magic of teacher, the stage Is lost for the. sake of action. For example much is made of a wrestling match to no special purpose, and one of the really great i scenes of the play, Lincoln's prayer for the recovery of a small boy, is omitted. Except for two or three I insertions of action. Impossible be- cause of the limits of space on the stage, the scenarists would have done much better to keep strictly to the play.

An excellent insertion Is the river boat scene when a smash sends squealing pigs into the river. These comparisons to tho stage play do not lessen tho power and appeal of the motion picture, for it is one that every American family should see. Quite fine are the orations of Lincoln and Stephen Douglas (Gene Lockhurt). Much Is made of the romance of Lincoln and Ann Rutledge (Mary Howard) and Miss Howard gives the role a tenderness and fineness that makes the picture much more meaningful. Ruth Gordon as Mary Todd Lincoln does an original piece of acting that will remain as one of the outstanding performances of the year.

This Lincoln story deals only with the young Abe Lincoln from his log cabin days, through his store- keeping career and postmastership. i his first election as assemblyman and final ascension to the Senate and then to tho presidency. The screen version manages to keep up- i permost that slow growth of Lin- coin's character that is like tho soaring strength a pine tree that finally stands out against the sky in national crisis. Among minor players that excel! are Harvey Stephens as Ninlan Edwards, Minor Watson as Joshua Speed; Elisabeth Rlsdon as Sarah Lincoln, Aldrich Bowker as Judge Bowling Green and Florence Roberts as Mrs. Green.
