Employment Dropping In 1967, NASA had 25,807 people working at the Kennedy Space Center. The figure is now about 18,500 and is expected to drop to 17,500 by the end of June. The end of the boom is giving Brevard a chance to catch up with some of the unmet demands of past years. A new causeway is under construction between the mainland and the beaches and another is being four-laned.
