Weaver, 35, a former Michigan State linebacker and Missouri assistant, has two years remaining on a three-year contract and Lee said an effort would be made to retain Weaver in another capacity. Ironically, Weaver steps down at a time when his seven-year rebuilding program is showing signs of future promise. He has some of the best sophomores in the league and the freshman squad is the best ever. K-State has an 0-8-1 record this season, with the last victory in 1964. He tried Tuesday but could reach speeds of only 534 and 555 miles per hour, considerably lower than the record of 600 m.p.h. set a year ago Tuesday by Craig Breedlove of Los Angeles. Arfons* Green Monster jet car developed engine trouble and a fin device to stabilize the car was damaged in Tuesday's runs. An engine tune-up at nearby Wendover Air Force Base was scheduled today. Arfons also said he wanted some more charges for releasing his parachute braking system. He said if the engine tune-up was satisfactory and the parachute brake charges arrive, he might try again this afternoon. Otherwise, Arfons said he would wait until Thursday or later in tiie week. 22—LOST LOST—Thursday night, about two miles southwest of Bonnie, male hound.
