Sunday the flre department was called to extinguish two grass fires, one on Second and Washington at 12 o'clock, and the other on Eleventh street at 5:30 o'clock. No damage was done. Saturday afternoon Joe Wollman's home on Prlndle street caught on fire and the roof of the porch was burned before the flre department was called. Last week Wednesday night fires occurred In both Rledle's and the Chelmlls meat market when a transformer In the city power system burned out. The damage was not large In either shop.

Tlie Bone Bill Initiative No. 52 There are several points to bear clearly in mind in considering the so-called Bone Free Power Bill, Initiative No. 52 The obvious purpose of the measure is to permit cities to sell electric energy outside of the city limits free of tax. The REAL PURPOSE as revealed by Sections 2 and 4, is to enable Seattle and Tacoma to obtain a monopoly in every district in which they may extend their lines by means of condemnation proceedings. Such condemnation proceedings will remove privately owned, taxpaying property from the assessment rolls and place it on the tax-exempt list, thus adding to the burden of all other taxable property in the state.

The effect will be the establishment of a municipal monopoly of the light and power industry subject to no form of control or regulation whatever and which, it is only reasonable to believe, will be administeeed for the benefit of the cities by means of lowered rates within and increased rates outside the corporate limits. The condemnation clauses referred to eliminate nil possibility of competition, while absolutely nothing in the way of compensation is offered for the unusual privileges which the passage of the bill would confer.
