TEXTBOOK CONTROVERSY THE WEST VIRGINIA GOSPEL TABERNACLE ASSOCIATION, with thirty one member churches in Kanawha County, is opposed to the textbooks, tapes and supplementary materials adopted by the Kanawha County Board of Education for use in the Kanawha County Public Schools. We believe some of the teachings of these books are detrimental to the Christian and moral principles upon which this nation was founded. We criso beKeve that this controversy should be settled without violence and in compliance with the law. Be it known we are opposed to the Board's ruling of November 8, 1974, allowing the controversial books to be placed again in our schools. Be it we are in accord with the guide lines adopted by the Board on November 21 1974, in regard to future selections of books, we are made to wonder how the Board can function properly with two sets of values, since this ruling is in direct contrast with the controversial books already adopted.

We as Christian protestors have been accused by some of taking the language to which we are opposed out of context. We maintain to use the name of God in vain, whether it be in context or out of context, remains the same. To connect the words "God" and "damn" to form one word can Convey only one meaning, and this is profane. The so called "four letter words which we find objectionable have the same filthy meaning in any society, whether these words be in or out of context. We wish to voice our great appreciation to Mrs.

Alice Moore for her courageous Christian stand which she has maintained throughout this trying ordeal. MEMBER CHURCHES OF THE ASSOCIATION Community Chapel Gospel Tabernacle William D. Layne, Co Pastor Clarence E. Edens, Co Pastor Charleston Mountain Mission Charles F. Scragg, Pastor J.
