Alert Issued For r Of Priest NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. (UP!) - Authorities Issued a nationwide alert Saturday for {he suspected kilter of a 64- year-old Catholic priest found tied spreadeagle to his bed in his church's rectory Friday, v Police Chief Kyle M. Gentry said the alert was for the driver of a stolen car, which was wrecked and abandoned near this small town 24 hours before Father Francis T. Donahue, chief administrator of St. John's Catholic Church, was found dead. The body was discovered Friday night by Donahue's secretary when she went to summon him to join some friends for dinner. His feet and right hand were bound spreadeagle to the bed posts. No visible wounds were found on the body. State Medical Examiner Dr. Page Hudson said he could not release the results of his autopsy "because the police are on the lead of a suspect." Gentry said the suspect, whose Identity was withheld, was driving a car stolen In Liberty, Mo., but carrying Kentucky license plates. On Thursday, when he crashed the car into the rear of a truck on state Route 421, Gentry said, the suspect "casually got out and said, 'I'll go call the police.' " He said the man took a briefcase from the car, walked toward a nearby grocery store and never was seen again. "Everybody thought everything was on the up and up until the police didn't come;" he said. Earlier, Gentry said robbery could have been a motive in the apparent slaying, since an Undetermined amount of money was missing. The priest's empty wallet was found In his pocket and his blue 1972 Chevrolet was missing. Gentry said the stolen car angle tipped them Off on the suspect. "We're just picking up any leads," he said. "This is only one." Blazes Rage In Southwest SILVER CITY, N.M. Singer said 275 acres had been burned in a fire In the Cibola National Forest in the San Mateo Mountains, seven small fires broke out in the Lincoln National Forest Saturday and another 80 small fires were going in other areas of the Gila National Forest. All the fires were believed to have been caused by lightning. COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF of U.S. Armed Forces chats with Air Force Chief of Staff Gen.
