GrFOX'CQ Nabors Show an Audience Fleaser as "What the World Needs Now is Love." Along with Nabors, the Kids did a song and dance tribute to America and a medley of marches and band songs. Everything about the Jim Nabors Show at Oakdale was enjoyable. The choreography, the music provided by the Sonny Costanza Orchestra, the humor, the lively spirit and probably most important of all. the depth of feeling and sincerity which Nabors put into every one of his songs made the evening totally unforgettable. The show will be at the Wallingford theater through Saturday.

OLGA R. PANNONE Waen Jim Nabors stood on the circular stage at the Oak-dale and began singing, his rich baritone voice filled the dome and captivated the audience. Nabors, wearing three different mod costumes during the evening, sang Candy Man." "How Great Thou Art." and "The Impossible Dream" which justly received a standing ovation. His back-home, woodsy-type of humor was very refreshing and quite familiar to: fans of the old "Gomer Pyle" series. Also performing at Oakdale; was comedian Ronnie Schell, who has appeared on television with Nabors on "Gomer Pyle" and "The Jim Nabors Schell kept the audience howl-; ing with jokes about airplane hijacking, Hollywood parties, television commercials, and the Mafia.

He, too, received a standing ovation at the close of: his performance. The Nabors Kids, a singing and dancing group which Nabors discovered at Disney World I in Orlando, were dynamic, beautiful people. When a character becomes as familiar as fiddler's "Tevye," the actor finds himself in the boots for his forebears who plied the proscenia in Greek tragedy, medieval morality and 19th century sentimentality.

The character, and the play, are so well known to the audi work is tight and compact, and the orchestra is well above average. There are minor flaws, noto-bly in the use of accents. A Yiddish accent is a collection of timeless inflections that charms totally when real, but embarass-ing when affected. Judith Brenner, Yente the matchmaker, sounded sometimes like she was doing a suburban imitation of Molly Goldberg, detracting from an otherwise solid performance. The overall production is effective, and worthy of attention even from long time fiddler fans who like to compare per itive, and comes across very well.

Within the limits of the audience's knowledge, the actor must develop a character that is continually innovative yet consistent with the play.
