HOT HJNCH DEBBIE DE SHULLO (right), 1, lunch. CAROL LYN K1ER1N nninclies on her sandwich. Last yeat, the state Department of Instillation said that children buying lunch at school should leceive a.hot.meal even if the school a cafeteria lacilities. With two schools in this category--the one room 0 School and Locust lary School in Twin Oaks, where are four grades--the Chi- Chester Joint School District had a. problem.

Its solution? The district purchased special hot pack units to transport tlie food from the high school cafeteria each day to these schools. In the Locust Hill School the children are served from tables set up in the wide corridor. They receive their lunch on gaily colored compartment trays. William Zwicr, Mrs. James Halloway and Mrs.

Charles Garehan, school employees, serve the students. An average of 75 children, about one half the enrollment, are served daily. The others' bring their lunch "or go home. "Of course," says Mrs. Garehan, "we have a big line when we serve hoagies.

Spaghetti is also a favorite." On the day these pictures were taken the menu was homemade vegetable soup, ham salad sandwich on Kaiser roll, milk, choco- 1 brownie baked apple i Chichester District students, receive the meal and milk for 30 cents. The school lunch program is under the auspices of the federal school lunch program. The government provides foods at a minimal cost to help schools serve a balanced meal, says Miss Victoria cle, director of the school sy- tem cafeterias. BERNARD BANNISTER, 8, selects piece of cake.
