The school board Monday night voted to approve the pay raises for the administrators, in connection with their contract renewals for the 1998-99 school year, which starts July 1.

Superintendent David Gray and Lybrook Elementary Principal Stefan Jaggi received pay raises designed to help bring them into line with other area school administrators. Gray's salary was increased by 6 percent to $68,000. He will receive a 3 percent increase during each of the following two years. Jaggi will receive a 6 percent boost to $54,000 in 1998-99, and 3 percent hikes the next two years, bringing his salary to $57,000 in 1999-2000, and $59,000 in 2000-2001. Jaggi also told the board he was surprised by Monday's first day of enrollment in the summer migrant education program.

"Boy were we shocked!" Jaggi said. "We usually have 55-65 at the beginning of school, and today we had 1 1 7 come to school." EAU CLAIRE New block scheduling is contributing to more students making the honor roll at Eau Claire High School, Principal Robert Andrews believes. "According to statistics, the usual number of students on the honor roll are about 25-30 percent of the students. This year ours went from 30 to about 50 percent," Andrews told the school board Monday night. Andrews said he credits the new block schedule with much of the progress.

"Students have only four subjects at a time, opposed to about eight in traditional scheduling. That means the students can concentrate on less subjects at a time, and that has an effect on their grades," he said. Bell Road and South Eleventh Street in Niles Township, Niles Township Fire Chief John LaMore reported. LaMore said store manager Wendell Nemeth discovered a burning molotov cocktail on the south side of the building at 7 a.m. Nemeth put out the flame and called the township police and fire departments.
