By DOROTHY NEWER Retirement Spending Senior citizens spent well over 90 per cent of their total budgets last year on daily living requirements, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports. Costs of three hypothetical budgets for urben, retired couples rose between 3 and 4 per cent from fall 1971 to fall 1972. An urban, retired couple of a husband, age 65, and wife a a i termediate level budget averaging $4,965. The average cost of the lower level budget was $3,442 and the higher budget averaged $7,689 annually. Total daily consumption spending ander the low and intermediate level budgets averaged 90 per cent and slightly under this for the high level budget.

The cost of housing, according to an analysis by the National Consumer Finance Association, including furnishings and operations, made up 37 per cent of the spending total, and the cost of food made up 30 per cent with other expenses, such as transportation, clothing, and personal care taking smaller shares.
