Edwards building at Shoppingtown, DeWitt, and a west side branch at the old Edwards store in Cam illus Plaza, according to company spokesmen. "We are taking a long, hard look at the location in Shoppingtown," Melvin Gar ber, public relations repres netative at Penney's New York headquarters, said yesterday. "But as of now, the company has not made a decision," he added. Garber said Penney's real estate agents also are looking into purchase of the Camillus building, but again stressed that the action is only ex plorator at this time. Joseph McCarthy, manager of the 35,000 square foot store Penney's currently operates at Shoppingtown, said talk about his store relocating in the complex was "rumor," but he said "it is a good "There is nothing official that can be said about it." said McCarthy.

"I've had no word on it from the company. (The Edwards store) is in a good location." McCarthy said the former Edwards store will be in an attractive position in the remodeled Shoppingtown complex. When the extensive remodeling and expansion now under way is completed, the complex will be a shaped, all climate mall with the old Edwards stores forming the base of the T. The Penney's store is shown as part of the new complex. Penney's has every reason to seek bigger quarters in the 100,000 square foot Edwards building, McCarthy said.

His sotre solicited more new charge account applications last October than any of the 350 Penney's branches in the northeast region. Some 1,040 credit applications were accepted that month, and the store won a company award for the achievement, McCarthy said. McCarthy was cautiously enthusiastic about rumors Penney's will open a Camillus store. "That's a very popular rumor," he said. "It makes a lot of sense because we don't have a west store." "Our (Shoppingtown) store has had extremely good growth.

We are having the best sales increases yet in the store this year," McCarthy said. He said the market for a Penney's store in the western suburbs is "excellent." SU Press Author Honored The American Association for State and Local History has awarded a certificate of commendation to a book published by Syracuse University Press. The award, "for excellence in presenting the story of the Iroquois role in the War for Independence," went to author Barbara Graymont for her book, "The Iroquois in the American Revolution." She is head of the history and economics department at Nyack College. The association is a nonprofit educational agency dedicated to advancing knowledge, understanding and appreciation of localized history in the United States and Canada. This is the third book published by SU Press to be honored by an association award.
