Kenagy was in the game less man a minute when a Wildcat defender tripped her inside the penalty box.

Napolitan converted on the penalty kick with 4:22 left in the first half to put Lakeshore up 1-0. Mattawan pressured the Lancer defense for the remaining four minutes, but sweeper Sharon Schmaltz, right fullback Adrienne Hull and Caroselli teamed up to ward off the Wildcats speedy left forward Catie Lewis, who posed several threats throughoutt Lakeshore appeared sluggish in the second half, but sophomore June Minami added some fresh flavor with 11:56 left in the game when she scored on a one-touch, high arcing 25-yarder that sank perfectly into the upper left comer of the goal off a diagonal feed from Napolitan. It gave the Lancers a 2-0 cushion. Minami's first goal of her varsity career helped Lakeshore secure its first goal of the post-season. Lakeshore blasted 19 shots on goal; Mattawan notched 13.

Senior Lancer keeper Allyn Blind made nine saves to post her sixth shutout, and third in the post-season. Mattawan's freshman keeper Jean Enge-James rejected 1 1 shots. The Wildcats finished with a 10-8-1 record. "We are 3-0," Blind said. "Defense did very well.

That was the best we played all season, I think, so we're lookin'up." "I think the difference was the first time we played them, Mattawan out-shot us by a lot and our intensity wasn't what it needed to be," said Schodorf. The Lady Lancer key? Big D.

"Lakeshore played a much better defensive game this time than they did the first time around," Mattawan coach Dave Zimmer said, in reference to a game earlier in the season when the Wildcats blanked the Lancers 1-0. "Their defense was much more intense and was, I thought, much improved I congratulate them." Lancer coach Bob Schodorf made a gutsy move. He started his leading scorer, junior forward Andrea Caroselli, at halfback and assigned her to defend Mattawan's skilled freshman midfielder Sarah Cultra. Caroselli shut down Cultra and knocked her out of the game for a while after delivering a good, hard slide tackle. Cultra had to leave the game with a crucial 26: 17 remaining.

"Wherever she went, I went," Caroselli said. "I was supposed to stay on her and make sure that she never got the ball or got an opportunity and to scare her a little. I did," she added with a chuckle. With Caroselli in the middle, junior forward Jessica Gleffe had an opportunity to showcase her speed, agility and fancy footwork. Gleffe had several early shots on goal and set up two wide-open opportunities for junior center forward J.J.

The suspension is for hitting Henderson of Oakland with a pitch on May 15 at Tiger Stadium, Tigers spokesman Merrill Cain said. The incident happened in the ninth inning, two innings after Oakland reliever Mike Mohler hit Bobby Higginson with a pitch. Henderson was hit right after Brocail was warned by home plate umpire Greg Kosc for throwing his previous pitch behind Henderson, who then yelled at Brocail from the batter's box.

After getting hit by the next pitch, Henderson started to walk to the mound with his bat in his hand. Both benches emptied before Henderson could reach Brocail, who was ejected. At the time, Henderson said: "It's part of baseball, but I'll remember. I ain't gonna get hit by him again." Coshy to bid on Cleveland Browns CLEVELAND (AP) Bill Cosby has joined a group of investors planning to bid on the new Cleveland Browns. "We hope to assemble what will not only be a very fine football team, but also an organization with a strong conscience that is socially responsible, an organization worthy of respect in many ways," Cosby said in a statement distributed by Larry and Charles Dolan, the brothers who head the group.

Charles Dolan is chairman of Cablevision Systems which owns a majority interest in the NBA's Knicks, NHL's Rangers and Madison Square Garden in New York. His brother is an attorney in suburban Cleveland. Under the proposed deal, the Dolan brothers and a Dolan family trust each would own 30 percent, Cosby would own 5 percent, and 5 percent would be held in reserve for the Dolans or another investor. The NFL, which has begun reviewing applications, has not set the price and said it would conduct a "managed auction." Most talk about the price ranges from $250 million to $300 million. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello estimated the league has about six serious candidates.

Possible bidders include Cleveland Indians owner Richard E. Jacobs, toy tycoon Thomas G. (AP) Larry Ziegler, following up his surprising win last week, shared the first-round lead with Dale Douglass in the 1.1 million Senior PGA Bell Atlantic Classic on Friday. Ziegler, who won the Saint Luke's Classic in Kansas City last week for his first tour victory in nearly seven years, and Douglass shot 4-under-par 68s at the Hartefeld National Golf Course. Five players Raymond Floyd, Jose Maria Canizares, Jack Lewis, Bruce Summerhays and Bruce Crampton were a shot behind the leaders. Jack Nicklaus was in a group of six who were at 70. The 58-year-old Ziegler had three birdies and a bogey on the front nine, then added two more birdies on the back.

"Right now, it's a carryover" from last week's victory, said Ziegler, who came close to quitting competitive golf at the end of 1997. "I just didn't want to play," he said. There was no indication earlier this year that Ziegler would get his first senior tour win since he won the Newport Cup on July 14, 1991. In his first nine tour stops in 1998, Ziegler finished no better than tied for 37th. About three weeks ago, the work began to pay off, as Ziegler said he began to shoot decently.

LPGA Skins Game FRISCO, Texas The 18-hole LPGA Skins Game competition will occur on Saturday and Sunday when Annika Sorenstam, of Sweden defends her title against Karrie Webb of Australia, Laura Da vies of England and Hall of Famer Nancy Lopez. On Saturday and Sunday, the four golfers will play 18 holes (nine each day) for a total of $540,000 in prize money.

Last year, Sorenstam, won eight skins and $220,000. Her eight-foot birdie putt at the 14th hole allowed her to claim four skins and $140,000 in 1997, the majority of her winnings. "Playing the best players brings out the best in me," said Sorenstam, who also won $100,000 in the 1996 Skins' event. "All of us will be aggressive because you have to make birdies to win.

You have to go for the pin as much as possible." Davies won the 1996 Skins Game with a record $340,000. And Lopez has finished second twice (1992, 1993) in her previous five appearances in the event. "Fof me to do well, I have to putt well," Lopez said. Klesko and Michael Tucker hit singles and Eddie Perez sacrificed off Cubs starter Mark Clark (3-6). Patterson came in after Curtis Pride was announced as a pinch-hitter for Andruw Jones, then Williams hit for Pride.

It was Williams second homer of the year, and first since April 2 against Milwaukee. Maddux (6-2) gave up five hits in eight innings to improve his career which was no fluke. Corning Classic CORNING, N. Y. Brandie Burton blushed.

Her game was back and not even the cold could mask her delight. Fighting early morning temperatures in the 50s that had several players donning gloves while walking the fairways, Burton shot a 6-under-par 66 Friday to take the second-round lead of the Corning Classic. Coupled with her opening 68, Burton held a three-shot lead over first-round co-leader Tammie Green and Britain's Stephanie Lowe, who were at 7-under 137. "It's just nice to be up there again," said Burton, who had an eagle and four birdies on the day. "It's been a long time." Despite her stellar round, Burton had plenty to worry about with two rounds to go.

Dottie Pepper, despite a heavy cold that almost forced her to withdraw, had birdies on three of her final five holes and shot a 68. She was tied at six under with Nancy Ramsbottom, Sweden's Catrin Nils-mark and Kathryn Marshall. And suddenly in contention was two-time defending champion Rosie Jones, who equaled Burton's 66 and was five strokes off the lead. "There's still lots of golf to be played," said Burton, who was thankful that the gusting winds ofThursday had all but died. "I've been working on a few swing mechanics and it's the best I've played in a month.

The former University of Texas All-America continued his surprising run Friday, shrugging off a couple of bad swings to cling to a two-shot lead at the halfway point of the MasterCard Colonial. "My swing felt a little jerky and a little funny," the Dallas native said after a 3-under-par 67 that hardly resembled the masterpiece of his opening 64. But his 36-hoie total of 131 was nine under par for two trips around the Colonial Country Club course and propelled him into the weekend with the lead over Mark Calcavecchia, Kenny Perry and Jim Furyk. "I hit a couple of bad shots but got some good breaks," said Frazar, 26, who emerged from obscurity last week when he finished in a tie for second at the GTE Byron Nelson Classic.

Calcavecchia and Perry both had 5-under 65s after opening 68s while Furyk posted a 67 after claiming a share of second place Thursday with a 66. Another stroke back at 134 was a group headed by Tom Watson and John Cook, last week's Nelson champion. Both posted 66s Friday and shared fifth place with Jeff Sluman (67-67), Steve Flesch (68-66) and Phil Blackmar (66-68).
