Yesterday morning during the heavy rain storm, along about 0 o'clock, the big water tank erected near the artesian well on Judge von Rosenberg's place in the addition burst and immediately precipitated a small Johnstown flood ou the immediate vicinity. The tank is a large wooden one, encircled by immense iron hoops, but the pressure was so great from the constant fall of the water in such torrents that the hoops hnrsted and the tank, of course, fell to pieces at once, letting the water out in an almost solid mass. No damage was resultant, however, save to the tank, which will have to be rebuilt. For Sale. When you want a good fountain syringe, talk with Dr.

There are some twelve fast and special colors, while for wool there are about thirty. All of the Diamond Dyes that are marked fust will make colors that do not faile or crock. It is impossible to get satisfactory colors on loth wool and cotton with the same dye, although some cheap dyes that are able to make only a few colors, claim that their dyes will color both cotton and wool. A trial soon shows by ruined goods the falsity of these claims. Take nothing but the original and reliable Diamond Dyes that have been used in thousands of homes for the last twenty yenrs.

THE OXE AT THE DITCHES NEAR THE PIMPING STATION EXPLODED YESTERDAY. Broken Arm and Lea; and Sealded Bark Trll the Story The Canse of the Explosion Is In-explained as Yet. For some time past there has been a force of workmen engaged in enlarging rather extending one of the filtering ditches at the new city pumping station the Duval property on the river bank. These troughs or ditches are about a block or so distant from the pumping station, which has beeu built with a view of pumping water into the city. Yesterday morning, shortly before o'clock, Mr.

M. S. Templar, one of the men engaged in working on the ditch, fired tip a small jKirtable engine that is used for the purpose of pumping water out of the ditch while the men dig. Soon after this engine was fired tip yesterday morning and steam had gotten to miming fairly well, Mr. Templar was busy oiling and walking around it, when suddenly exploded, throwing him a considerable distance to the ditch, where be fell in the water.

The explosion of the boiler drove a piece of the metal against his leg just below the hip with such force to break the leg and alo lauded another piece of the boiler against his arm. breaking it between the wrist and elbow. The escaping steam scalded Mr. Templar rather badly on the leg and back. He was quickly pulled out oi the ditch by two fellow workmen and Dr.

Granberry was called on to give him medical assistance. This he did at once and soon had Templar in a condition where he could le moved to the city hospital. There his leg was placed in splint by Dr. Granberry and his arm and scalded back and legs dressed carefully. Last afternoon he was resting easy and seemed to lie getting along very nicely indeed.

When the Isiiler of the portable engine exploded it did so wih such force that it drove the carirage on wntcn tne engine was resting some twenty-five feet from where it was standing. Fortunately there was nothing near at hand that could be damaged materially by the explosion, the scene being on the barren sand tieach, though it was a great wonder that the two fellow workmen who were near Templar at the time did not get hurt. They were, however, a trifle to the lea of the flying debris and escaped without the suffering that will attend Templar for several days to come. The canse of the accident is not fully explainable even by those who were near at the time. The engine exploded without the slightest premonition of coming events.

It is presumed by some that there was too large a head of steam on for the boiler to safely carry and it exploded. Others contend that the water in the boiler had run down so low as to canse the explosion. The former theory is the most generally accepted, though the men working at the engine say that they do not know exactly what caused the explosion, but ore cf the opinion that the water in the boiler was permitted to eet too low. The damage resultant upon the explosion, outside of the injury to Templar, will be comparatively small. The engine was a second-hand one and its loss will not represent more than or $400 in the aggregate.

Work on the digging of the ditch will be retarded but very little as another engine will be taken to the place and the work will continue ns usual. Free Pills. Send yonr address to II. E. Bucklen Chicago, and get a free sample box of Dr.

About 8:30 yesterday morning the rain ts-gan to fall in perfect sheets and within a very short time bad flooded the whole face of creation. Gutters on the Avenue were filled to overflowing almost in the twinkling of an eye, and the streets were converted into running streams. The heavy rainfall lasted about an hour. The rain was general in this section of the state, according to all reisirts. and was in the nature of a water spont at many places.

During the day the atmosphere cooled off considerably and by nightfall was delightful compared with the miserably hot weather that we have had for days past.
