Saw Tear's liar. New Year's Day was not as generally observed yesterday as on former occasions, from the fact that the Legislature was in session, contrary to ths usual custom, and members did not take the road until late in the afternoon. They then bad to rush around and see how many calls they could make before darkness came on. The ladies were at their best and arrayed in the most bewitching toilets, and made the reception of strangers as welcome as could be desired. The outgoing and incoming Governors called together.

Many of the members whose dress suits had been delayed by slow freight transportation and did not call at all. The usual refreshments were lavished upon the guests and those who finished calling a couple of hours after dark considered that they had really done a good day's work There were many new faces among the ladies who received and from the general appearance of things, the. -session will 'be a lively one socially.
