Then the state will take about three days to unfold its evidence on the actual crime. It was reported that the coupe in which Hughes was riding alone, ran into a lumber truck at the top of a hill four miles south of Alan-tee, on state highway 15 Friday morning. Hughes' body was being held at an undertaking parlor awaiting advice from his relatives.

Moon of Temple and Dr. Caroline Crowell, Since the slaying, a number of doctors have examined Howard. Among them Is Dr. Joe Wooten, eminent Austin doctor who has for years been the Pierson family physician. Dr.

Wooten declared publicly that Howard Is Insane, the victim of dementia praecox. Dr. D. B. Klein, professor of psychology at the University of Texas, is another qualified sanity expert who interviewed Pierson immediately after the killing.

A brief but savage fist fight between the presidents of two of the most powerful unions in the American Federation of Labor furnished a violent climax Saturday to stormy verbal disputes which have marked the federation's convention here. John L. Lewis, head of the United Mine Workers, and William L. Hutcheson, president of the Carpenter's union, engaged in a knockdown fight which threw the convention Into wild The fight grew out of the controversy between industrial and craft unions which, although decided several times in favor of the crafts, is still the most important and inflammable of the federation's internal issues, "He called me foul names which I'll take from no one," was Lewis' explanation after the fracas. "He struck the first blow," said Hutcheson as he left the convention hall, his face bleeding.

It was the first convention fist fight in the memory of those who have been attending the federation's sessions. The convention shouted down, without a record vote, a proposal that organized labor form its own political party. It also denounced communism and adopted a constitutional amendment providing that no organization officed or controlled by communitsts, "or any person espousing communism or advocating the violent overthrow of our institutions, shall be allowed representation or recognition in any central body or state federation of labor." Late Saturday night the convention came to an end after two weeks of stormy sessions. in this country will be fortunate this season If their gross income Is $6 a week.
