Mexican jail riot injures inmates, guard REYNOSA, Mexico (AP) -Three inmates and a guard were injured Tuesday in a riot at a prison across the border from McAllen, Texas. About 250 inmates at the Cereso prison staged a protest Tuesday morning against the new prison security chief, who they said used excessive force against them, prison spokesman Jesus Hernandez Rivas said. Some of the protesters set fire to a car, a tractor and several workshops inside the prison, he said. The riot ended after several hours when prison officials agreed to hear their concerns. grants for teachers VESTABURG, Mich.

(AP) Teachers big on ideas but short on cash won't have to look very tar tor special-project funds. The school board on Monday approved five mini grants at up to $1,000 each for people to conduct special projects to benefit 'Vesta-burg Community School students in Montcalm County. (AP) Motorists in Michigan will find few road projects slowing their trip over the Thanksgiving holiday.

(AP) -Some 400 killers, rapists and thieves were freed from prison Tuesday and another 80 can go home for the holidays due to a state Supreme Court ruling that they must be given time off for good behavior. The court ruled last month that rules governing inmates' sentences can't be changed after their crimes were committed. Detroit group gets $18 million grant DETROIT (AP) The human rights group Focus: HOPE will receive $18 million in a grant and loan to finance a new residential learning and conference center, officials announced Tuesday. Focus: HOPE Tech Villas, on the west side of Detroit, will support the group's technology education programs and manufacturing operations. The grant was made through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and HUD Secretary Henry Cisne-ros was in Detroit for the announcement.

Tech Villas will be located in the former Yellow Pages building purchased for Focus: HOPE by Ameri-tech in 1995. The officials said the center will host educators, industry professionals and community leaders from around the country and the world for technology snaring and development.
