A2 Sebastopol TIMES NEWS March 31, 1993 Youth Outreach resumes Flower show patrons Brook Haven schools, with junior high students served at Brook Haven's gym and high school students at Analy's gym. Offered at both sites will be basketball, with the possibility that volleyball will be offered at Brook Haven if enough interest is expressed by youths. Also offered, said Bowers, will be free marshal arts classes, including karate, Tai chi, and capoeira at the dance studio building at Analy. Free guitar lessons will also be offered at the Community Center on Morris Street, courtesy of Sebastopol musician Buz-zy Martin. In addition to Martin, volunteers include Manuel Olvera, karate instructor Jeff Green, Tai chi instructor Julie Pickrell, and capoeira instructor Chuck Johnson.

Funding for the Youth Outreach program was obtained through donations from local business owners and the Sebastopol Rotary Club. To date, the program has raised $8150. Dozens of teens took part in the Christmas break program, by John B.Burns In an effort to provide more recreational opportunities for Sebastopol area youngsters who might otherwise become involved in criminal activities, a special volunteer effort will resume during spring break, April 12-17, aimed at providing sports and cultural activities for kids on vacation from school. First initiated during last year's Christmas vacation by an ad hoc committee led by City Manager Mel Davis and Police Chief Dwight Crandall, the Youth Outreach Program was begun following several meetings which focused on the correlation between increased street gang membership and a paucity of after school recreational activities for teens. According to program coordinator Mary Bowers of the Sebastopol Community Center, the six-evening program will be open to Sebastopol area boys and girls age 12 through 18 for six evenings during the week at both Analy High School and U-U v-' I These fourth graders from Oak Grove School were a few of many who took part in last week's Spring Flower Show sponsored by the Graton Community Club which noted that the show was one of its most successful in recent memory.

Gravenstein Hwy. Police searched for three teenage girls suspected of stealing something from the Sebastopol Hardware store. March 25 Gravenstein Hwy. A 15 year-old Sebastopol boy who stole a girl's bicycle in the Fiesta shopping center was arrested with help from the victim's mother and a nearby business owner. March 24 Gravenstein Hwy.

A 29 year-old Monle Rio man was caught shoplifting at Fiesta Market. Sebastopol A battery was reported at the Village Park Trailer Park, but no arrest was made. March 23 Petaluma Todd Michael Pyland, 23, of 562 Petaluma was arrested on an outstanding warrant. March 22 Petaluma A $75 tank of nitrous oxide was stolen from a locked storage shed outside a dentist's office in the 500 block. Bodega A family disturbance which included property damage resulted in the arrest of a 15 year-old boy at the Casa Bodega Apartments in the 7700 block.

Police arrested 43 year-old John Alton Eislerof 8661 Green Valley Rd. who County sheriffs log December of 1991 to May of 1992, is currently in jail in Athens, Alabama pending extradition to Sonoma County for prosecution.
